What's your tongue weight? With my R5, it was 600# with boat empty, which is over the 500# rating of the hitch so I ended up using a WDH.

Yes, tongue weight is ~650#, but I hate the idea of using a WDH. Convince me it's not a major PITA.

Initial setup takes a little bit of time but once it's set up, takes an extra 10 minutes to use every time. I am super used to it since I have a travel trailer that I also use one on.

Now that I have a 3/4T I don't need a WDH for the boat anymore.

A Roadactive suspension does nothing about you being over the weight limits of the hitch. It also doesn't transfer a bunch of weight back to the steer axle to make the towing experience better

Totally agree on the Roadactive suspension, you are just hiding the squat and doing nothing to address the weight taken off the front wheels of the truck.

I would say Bruce I am not sure if he is over the weight limits of the hitch or over the amount of weight Ford feels comfortable with the hitch carrying without WD. The hitch itself can carry way more than 500lbs, Ford just thinks anything over that takes enough weight off the front wheels to impact braking and steering performance.

Here is our new setup, so far pretty happy with it.

We are under 500lbs on the tongue /w this trailer. I know the R6 is heavier than the R5 so more tongue weight in play.

Personally 600lbs on a boat trailer wouldnt be enough for me to mess /w a WDH setup but know you are over Ford's recommended weight limits and factor that into the way you drive with the boat behind you.

The brakes are fine they are large and can stop on a dime. I have a 7200lbs tow rating and I'm at around 6000 and it handles it just fine. Here's a picture on the day that I just went to TRL

Well it finally came time to upgrade the 2008 Sequioa. Just got a 2024 Yukon Denali xl 4wd with the 3.0 Duramax. Complete with air ride suspension. Tow rating is only 7700, but tongue weight with the air suspension is 770 and seems to keep things level. Boat is 5895 and 580 in tongue weight in trailer form, so I think I'll be fine. Good news is I'm towing 17 miles each way twice a year (but hoping to tow a few other things). I don’t have pics as I’ve only towed once so far and the boat was dirty---can't post a dirty boat pic. Trusting the likes of the GM gurus on here (Big BLock Power/CMattJ) who have sung the GM praises for years. Engine pic is for the gear heads. Hoping the transmission and rear end stay strong. I did get 27 mpg at 80 on a recent road trip over 1300 miles . I’ll post a pic when she’s hooked up

Thanks A7- You know strangely enough, the room isn't that much different than in my Sequoia. The Sequoia had more interior width for sure and a wider back opening. I have to move my dog crates forward about a foot in this one and that really negates the interior room. It's a bit better, but not huge. The ride is insane

Not a truck person and only need to pull the boat from indoor storage in April to my driveway (about 20 miles), get the boat ready for the season and for the marina to open and move the boat from the driveway to the marina launch ramp (only 3 miles) and the boat is then docked for the season. Come fall, I pull the boat, take it back to the house to prepare for its winter nap and wait for the storage spot to open (Last week in October).

For such limited use, I chose to take a much cheaper option - less than $200 each year!

Jimmy, I rented an F250 flatbed truck with a hitch from Home Depot for a similar $20 deal (ends up being more with various fees) when I had to move our boat once when the Touareg was in the shop for several days. It's a great thing to have as a fallback, or if you just don't need it that often.

I was going to rent a u-haul truck to pull my boat 25 miles once but found the max towable weight to be 6000#. I know I am over that amount so decided against it.

I think its been posted up before, but Enterprise Truck rental will rent 250/350's both gas an diesel.

I dont know what engine UHaul puts in their rental F150's I bet it was the 3.3L N/A V6 which would account for the 6,000 max tow rating.

Good news is Ford dropped the 3.3 N/A out of the F150 lineup so the base in any F150 is now the 2.7 Ecoboost. Enough to tow your R5 next time you need it.

Always hear you must have a one ton dually for ANY towing and agree for pulling/braking heavier stuff, but for smaller "trailerable" 'set ups our Tacoma V6 is fine all day long. 21 CS22 on a Boatmate spec'd with four wheel disk set up. Tows great, breaks great. Truck does fine for towing in North Georgia and any lake ramp we've been on. We trailered the first two seasons and now have the boat on a lift in a covered slip, but easily pull her out for maintenance and weekend trips.
