Sorry, my little runabout never had all these fancy bells and whistles!

I know I have a pump out set up, I have a switch on the dash for a macerated, how do I know if I actually have one?

Lift the lid and watch it swirl.

Mine is a pump out too but nothing happens when I flip the switch. Truth be told, I really don't want to have to pump anything out!

If you have a macerator, the flushed waste will be dumped out of the boat and into the water instead of into an onboard holding tank.
Slightly illegal on an inland lake.

I highly doubt it has a macerator unless it was an ocean used boat.

Seriously, I have had a boat with a macerator before so here's a couple of things to look for....

Do you have a thru-hull other than the bilge pump? My experience is that macerators often have their own thru-hull and it's usually a pretty short run---kinks and turns aren't what you want when you're pumping semi-solids
Because macerators aren't supposed to be operated within a certain distance of shore, there is often a a y-valve or ball valve that has a lock on it, or a provision for a lock.
When you hit the switch, you will hear a sound that is kind of like a soft whirring, or maybe a really weak blender under a blanket
If the boat is in the water, look around...there's gonna be a slick and that ain't oil....

And lastly, wait for it......there will be a smell that is undeniable......

The only good marine head is the one that goes unused.........they are foul, nasty, cantankerous, disgusting, evil, vile contraptions that in my opinion should only be used in the most dire of emergencies.
