1999 220 Hoses Under Engine

I have a 1999 220 with the 7.4 in it. Under the engine there are several hoses mounted that end at a separate ball valve for each one that would just drain into the bilge. When I was checking out the boat with my mechanic I remember him saying something about occasionally cracking one open, but didn't remember why. Can anyone shed some light and save me the embarrassing phone call to tell him I wasn't paying enough attention? We have some cold weather coming this weekend and I was hoping it had something to do with draining water from the engine.

That's right. Worse case scenario is water or oil comes out. But probably just water.

Get some pics pal.. They are correct as most drains "added" are short cuts for winterizing fresh water cooling and blocks.. But to be sure.. Pics.. Besides lets see that 454 efi stuffed in there!!

Haha I will be going out tomorrow to throw a drop light in it and wipe it down to see how much detailing I need to do before the season starts. Will grab pics of the hoses then. Now that I think about it they may be pipes with hoses plumbed into them with ball valves on the end. It looked like it was done from the factory. It is directly below the motor and looks super clean. Someone would have had to pull the motor to do it I think. In the mean time here is a pic of the sexy motor.

Looking good!
Maybe if there's a capped female hose end it may be for fresh water flush? Just a guess if it's tied into your fresh water pump pick up line.

So there are 8 hoses that lead to ball valves hard to get a good pic. I cracked two of them open and it looks like antifreeze came out of both.

Looks like it is a setup to drain water out of all the systems to winterize.
Eight would be about right:
2-manifolds
2-block
2-impeller
2-heat exchanger
Just thinking out loud.
Definitely look like one of them is hooked to the exhaust manifold.

I always think out loud
They way they dump into that panel at the lower seat then drop to the bilge nicely thought out..
I'm with you as it's a way to completely drain.. very interesting..
Antifreeze?? Haven't you ran this? ( usually winterizing fills them for winter with coolant)
It didn't look closed cooling? Hopefully just winter lake water
slick idea for that bad dude..
Have you ordered your Corsa exhaust yet?

It sure looked pink coming out of there. We have had it out several times. I don't know if it is closed cooling or not. Sounds like a call to my mechanic is in order. I didn't want to let to much out if it was closed cooling.

The mystery continues.. I didn't notice an expansion tank or resv bottle .. keep us posted pal but in the mean time enjoy!! You'll be passing most bowriders now!

Maybe he refilled everything with antifreeze after he drained the engine as a precaution.

Somebody made there own drain system. I don't see a single heat exchanger or a coolant reservoir anywhere. It could have been rust color from the water or some residual coolant from when it was winterized. Lake water isn't going to suck that out. If you didn't leave it open long enough to get water to come out.

Mystery solved. Talked to my mechanic today and he said that it is not a closed cooling system. The hoses are indeed just a quick way to drain the motor. He said the reason there are 8 of them is because each drain needs its own hose so it doesn't make an alternate path for the water to take that could potentially bypass the motor. Also the reason coolant came out when I cracked them open is that since the water doesn't actually flow through the hoses unless you open the drain running the boat won't circulate water into them to flush the coolant.
