So the speedo is out again on my 2011 A25 (with Volvo 8.1 Gi with Duoprop stern drive). Seems like this is a ongoing problem for not just Cobalt owners. The first time the pitot tube was obstructed at the drive. This time there is no blockage but it isn't working. Does anyone know if there is a gps-based speedometer solution that will fit with this gauge set? I'd rather not put some franken-gauge on there. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Thanks in advance everyone.

I understand your considering gps, but did you check the cavity with a pick or drill bit? I had to clean mine a few times last year and the drill bit (rotated by hand) always worked.

I second this! Especially if you have been out on Lake Cumberland with all the debris that is out this time of year, no telling what you could have picked up. Drill bit should work it loose, we had the same issue with our 222 when we purchased it last year. Quick fix.

Can anyone post a pic of where this inlet is to clean out?

Found this pic on a Volvo.. little higher than a mercruiser but you get the idea.

1/8 drill bit.. slooooowly turn by hand to extract debris.. all it takes is a soft piece to kill a speedo pick up from reading.

I'm used to the older vp drives with the seperate speedo pick up. What he has is just line the bravo 3 drive. Not sure if vp has a connector half way up that comes out of the drive with a1/4 turn like the merc does. I've had to flush it from that fitting down it the drive as well. I was looking at this gps speedo too. I'm not sure what you have all built into your speedo guage though.

I stopped relying on the panel speedo and just use the readout on my GPS display. I would spend $420 for a SIMRAD GO5 before I would spend #350 for the Perfect Pass unit. You would get so much more.

I have not had 1 problem with my 2014 A-25 Mercury V8 with Captin’s call. Except a speedometer that refuses to work. How is it the cobalt can get so much right and something as simple as a speedo so wrong? So I’m left to spend $420 for a SIMRAD GO5. Things could be worse, I could own a master craft.

Have you taken it to your local dealer for diagnosis?
