Unknown substance in coolant resivoir

If it's been sitting awhile it would be just moisture turned to a grey water type mold. No biggie.

Boat is new, 4.5 hrs on it and it's only been sitting a couple of weeks. Dealer said he hasn't seen it before and is sending the pic to VP tmrw. Hopefully not a big deal.

It doesn't appear to be a big issue. It also doesn't look like Oil contamination or intermix as when coolers are leaking back and forth into a cooling system. The fluid would be discolored. Keep us posted.. 4.5 hrs... im jealous.. lets make it 44.5 this year pal!!

It doesn't appear to be a big issue. It also doesn't look like Oil contamination or intermix as when coolers are leaking back and forth into a cooling system. The fluid would be discolored. Keep us posted.. 4.5 hrs... im jealous.. lets make it 44.5 this year pal!!

Its hard to tell the consistency, but does it look powdery or granular? Very well could be manufacturing residue from the hoses or some other crap from the manufacturing process that floats. Wipe it out with your finger.

Hard to tell, looks more granular. I was thinking residual crap from the manufacturing process. I plan on cleaning it out tmrw.

That's what I would say also. either take a turkey baster and suck it out or if you can get a clean white towel of sort on it too remove it that would be good. If you suck it out or it in a clear jar so they can see it and or test it. Or disconnect the reservoir and dump it all in a jug and clean it out then get new coolant and reinstall it. Don't run it. Fix it first while it's right there and easy to get too.

Dealer is close, just frustrating having to take it in with so little time on it. I'll post info once I hear back.

Dealer said he talked to VP and they said its not anything to worry about but also did not elaborate what the substance is (I didn't have time to inspect further today). The frustrating part (also worrisome) I have found numerous boats for sale with 250 hrs that show no signs of this and have clean fluid. Something doesn't seem right, guess when I have time to pull the boat out its off to the dealer.

Huh, never thought I would be excited about not having closed loop cooling.

I get it, it's a new boat, I would be concerned. Document the VP response of "it's ok", and maybe take a few pictures as well. I would clean out the tank and flush the cooling system. Since it's under warranty I think it would be reasonable to ask the dealership to do this for you. Again have them document this.

Once all that is done get the boat on the water and get some hours on it. If it comes back then freak out.

I will add that was easy for me to rationally plan all that out because it's not my brand new boat floating around /w crap in the coolant. Before doing anything I suggested you should first have an adult beverage or three.

I'd document it with pics and your dealers written response. Wipe it out and run it. If it returns, bring it to their attention again before your warranty runs out. It's likely some residual from the engine build.
Put some hours on that sucker!
