1972 I have Brakes

Just took off a wheel on my trailer and found out that I have brakes. Not really happy to see how this thing was built.
I never really looked at the trailer that hard, but decided today to take a wheel off and take a look. Was interested in the bearings and found that I
might have bit off more that I can chew.
I bet not many of you will see this set up on your rigs. The bearings are pitted and need to be replaced at $40 a pop there all pitted and scored.
Take a look at this set up and if anyone has a thought on how to maybe bring this thing to a more modern era I would be happy to listen
Pics for your enjoyment.

Thanks for the pic Dale.
I take it you are talking about drum brakes versus tire breaks.
Almost looks as if that tire had a retread, no?

Dale those look to be Dexter trailer brakes like off of a camper. That's a magnet for electric brakes.

I'm not sure if they are retreads but haven't looked at those yet still scratching my head on how to upgrade this old stuff without killing myself.

Yes those are shot. Do you have a rv dealership by you? At my brothers shop we stocked those. Does it say dexter on any of the drums? You should be able to find that on the web.
