Mercruiser help

Summarized my boat Saturday and it was a somber experience. Dipped it on trailer in a lake and ran it for 15-20 min. Engine temp never got over 90 degrees 😢. Water temp was 54 degree. It also ran rough. Some times it would start to stall out from running smooth at 2k rpm when rpms dropped sundently. Sometimes it would almost sound like it was back firing. Gas was stabilized in late oct with a valtech which dealer recommends (lodder). The engine is a 2015 mech with 30 hours on it ( I got it last summer mid July with 11 hrs on it).

BBP thinks my thermostat might be stuck open. I want to put it in the lake and run it a little to knock cobwebs off it from the deep sleep.

Hey AJ ...BB is right. She won't run right at low temps. Almost like the choke on a carb being engaged as the fuel enrichment is in a different setting.

Plus you may have 2 different issues with high water concentrations from sitting, regardless of fuel additive. So before you go spin a fresh fuel filter on her.. you may need to fill it with fresh fuel and run her out..

Thermostats stay open when stuck as they are naturally closed in design..

No biggie pal.. just a little pre season check out👍🏼

I called mercury and they think the drop in rpm was guardian mode related. I agree with you an BBP that tstat is an issue here.

Was it stored with a full tank of gas?

Good thing is it runs, I doubt there's anything major wrong with it. Offhand thoughts, thermostat, bad gas, maybe fouled plugs or a plugged fuel injector.

I'm with these guys, start with the easy stuff like thermostat and fuel filter and see what happens from there.

Good to hear Pal! I thought you would hear a chirp or alarm but maybe not?

Smartcraft service now indicator....but that was on half of last year before I figured out bad gas was the issue (boat sat 18 months before I bought it).

Hoping it is thermostat. Doubt bad gas as it is only 6 months old, used valvtect to stabilize, and stored it full. Thermostat is covered under my 5 year engine warranty so going to let lodder marine take a stab. Thanks for advice. The guardian mode comment from mercury makes me feel much better.

Lodders called today and said fixed it. Said gravel got into the thermostat and was keeping it open. So no warranty claim but fixed. Wallet a little lighter 😢

That's good. Too bad they didn't want to work it more for you just saying.

I'll say it.. gravel schmavel.. ok it's a grey area for a warranty claim, and the crowd would have went wild.
But at least your ready AJ!!
