I have the V8 5.7l Volvo Penta in my 210, and did my first winterizing last weekend. Part of that was pumping out the oil the boat came with, and refilling with Mobil 1 15w-50 (Volvo says any 30w or higher is fine, but no 0w-30). It went pretty slick, but it did take about 10 minutes for the pump to remove all the oil from the engine through the dipstick tube (oil was not hot).

The nice part is you don't have to pump continuously, or even very often - just pump enough to create a good vacuum in the changer at the start, and sit back and watch the oil move. I used a Marpac fluid extractor, like the one here: http://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?pa ... id=1345777 which includes a tube that can be inserted through the dipstick tube and a hose connection that can simply be screwed onto the top of the dipstick tube (as pictured below).

John I wish I could find that adaptor for the dip stick tube. Do you have any leads?
I just bought a new 12v pump to try.I always had the vacuum pump one also. I figure for under $20 with a try. It had ok reviews on it.

I bought a washer machine hose cut it in half with a few adaptors just to make sure it had some clearance on the dipstick tube. Not sure if I really needed too. after I ran the boat all day yesterday I decided to drain the oil with this pump and I got 6qts it in about 2 minutes. It worked awesome and no mess. I think I paid under $20 for that pump and $10 in the washer hose. I'm set now for awhile.

I don't have any great leads unfortunately - everything I have came in the box with the manual extractor pump. I sort of like that it's manual and fairly simple, and it doesn't take many pumps to get a good vacuum going. I think mine was maybe $50-60 with shipping.

Yes, I have always used the Moeller vacuum pump with extractor tube.

Changed my oil and filter today after the day on the water. I figured the oil is warm and I think I'll only get out one more time. It's warm out so just get it done. Five minutes done and no mess I really like that pump and the washer hose I have converted to fit my dipstick. Fuel is stabilized before I hit the water.

Lightweight.really that tiny low hp engine wouldn't be going back in if I was that far. I'd make a second trip to the bank.lol

One's enough.

Otherwise major uprgrades to the engine components to handle it.
Plus, my bank account is already stressed to the limit.

Aslan, I've wondered if an Eaton TVS supercharger would be a good fit for a boat like a Cobalt that runs on a gas engine. I suspect in another 5-10 years we'll start to see more of them as manufacturers try to bring weight down and boost efficiency, much like what's going on in cars now.

I still can't believe sometimes we tow our boat with a 180 cu. in. (3L) engine in our Tourareg...
