Slide Anchor customer service - top notch!

I have 3 of their anchors...small shore spike, large shore spike, and a small box anchor. Managed to bend the tip of the small spike this past weekend driving it into a rocky beach, sent pics and they agreed to replace it under the lifetime warranty. During the process of setting up the exchange, I called in to see if I could pay the difference and upgrade from the small to the large spike so both of my spikes would match. They said absolutely. During that process they also agreed to let me swap out my small box anchor for the large since I've been having trouble getting the small one to set and hold. These guys are great! Lifetime warranty and seems like they have a great customer satisfaction drive as well. Spoke to another local Cobalt owner who has the large box and absolutely loves it, so I'm hopeful that the bigger one will solve the problem. I've been through two different sized fluke anchors and now a small box trying to find something that will set quickly and hold reliably. Will update once I have a chance to try the large box.

BTW wife was laughing at me carrying 5 anchors on the boat, until we used all of them this past weekend :)

Anyway, just wanted to share my experience with Slide Anchor's customer service.

That’s great to hear! I have the large box and our lake is largely a muddy bottom. You can skip your arms the next day at the gym after you haul it in on a rope. Holds really well, brings up half the bottom with it.

I went with the medium box on our last boat , the 32. I struggled retrieving the large one I tried. The medium bit just fine with a 2-1 scope.

I think they work better than advertised and I left it open as it fit in the front anchore locker fine.

The other guy said the same thing about it being a workout to pull up

They don't make a medium anymore unfortunately.

Side by side comparison of the small and large sizes of each.

So the one I kept( yep I'm that guy who puts the of anchor back in) measures 12x12

Is the the medium?

It worked perfectly with tide and current and the boat was 8000 lbs

That actually looks like the small one. If you look at my pics above, the floor tiles are 12x24. Small one looks like the 12x12 to me.

It's all you need then.. I remember having to pull directly over it to pop it up and out .

I never folded it up just let it rest on the holder in the locker with two cross bungees. Great anchor.. you don't need the large ( takes two people anyway)

I've been using the small one and it's not enough. It'll bite but when I put some tension on the line it keeps breaking loose.

I think this is key. I think many lake boaters have anchor issues because the anchor cannot work as designed. Current and tide allow the anchor to set and bite and I would say boat position is fairly static even with a long scope. A 7:1 scope on my 30’ average deep lake would make me very unpopular where we tie up. Shifting winds would make for a lot of visiting with neighbors. Really, a 2:1 isn’t all that practical. I need the anchor to set, but I’m relying on weight a good bit as well.

Used the large box this past weekend with better success. I didn't give it any hard tugs after dropping like I did with the small one, but it seemed to set quickly with 2x scope and we didn't move for the 2-3 hours we were floating. There were probably a couple of 20mph gusts with no issues.
