MX 6.2L MPI

Hey guys,

I've got a 6.2L that I think needs some tuning.

When I start the boat (no matter if its a cold start or warm start), the boat kinda coughs to life.

Also, the idle speed is very slow along with the idle RPM. It almost sounds like it has a performance cam in it. Sometimes I think its going to die. It will also act like it wants to stall out when going from forward to neutral or neutral to reverse.

Any thoughts on some immediate fixes that come to mind? I am not overly mechanic savvy, but with direction I can do most things.

TIA

Well. Take the air cleaner off open the throttle all the way open. Engine off of course. Take carb cleaner on a rag and clean the throttle plate and that whole area. You may have a lazy iac motor. Easy to change 2 screws. Also merc puts a tiny filter in a passage going to the iac motor that could be sucked in or coming apart and plugging the passage.

After watching this vid it may be normal.

Nauti's have one.

Thanks BBP.

After watching the video, seems very similar to mine.

I'll also take at that part.

Appreciate it!

You may also want to change the fuel filter. Mine is on the starboard side. If you open your engine hatch look down to the left. Maybe run some Seafoam in the gas tank as well. I was going to replace mine before the season started, but still in a box in the garage.

About four years ago when my idle control valve went bad, boat would die when idling. I had "warning beeps" when it went out. Funny thing, when researching the Mercruiser part, it was the same as a 1990-something Town&Country (I think, it was a long time ago).

Interesting. I have not seen a online fuel filter in a long time on any of my boats.
Yes there are a couple of diff style iac. One is off of a Ford and one is a gm style. Never saw the chry. One.
Ive had a few fail on me and I always have a spare on the boat.

I would think that is just a AC Delco filter. Does it have a AC part number on it.

These were the only #'s on the filter. Not sure what the other #'s are

Nope they don't have the ac delco number anymore. I know they used to when I changed it on my donzi.
Good find though.

Yep that is a AC Delco GF series filter. Even K&N made them.

Not sure AJ. Just the Merc or Quicksilver brand would be fine. Unlike the in-line gf delco with brass adapters and clamps ( funny how things get adapted by rigging), those are more proprietary to the cool fuel systems .
