Terrible accident at TR yesterday https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/un ... ke-n893011

Not sure why they would try to go out if weather was that bad, but I guess it can also sneak up on you at the lake. All our table rock crew ok?

Theres a thread down in Southeast on it. So so sad for those folks. No frickin way would I get in a duck. When we were there I was amazed at how close those open windows are to the water, and how a big wake could roll right in. Couple that with the fact it's a bus, not a boat. Sure it floats, but really? Load them up with 30+ people for a loop in 300 feet of water?

Prayers to all those involved and affected by that accident. That storm was building all day. That company should have never had that boat on the water.

Folks on here ive talked to are ok. Not sure about damage. I know some docks broke loose in the shell knob area which is the other side of the lake from where this happened.

Not sure of damage in the Shell Knob area, guess I'll find out this weekend... :? hope it's not too bad. Feel horibble for those 17 people that lost their lives trying to have fun.

We're up the Indian Point Cove, just a few minutes by boat to where this tragedy happened. At the time of the Duck incident, we had a big downdraft take out three mature trees and snap off a fourth about 10 feet up. No dock damage. I don't understand why the canopies on the Ducks can't be released in an emergency. The Coast Guard made a determination years ago that they are the primary cause of fatalities on these craft. However, no changes to the regulations were ever made. Maybe this horror will be the catalyst for changes to be made.

That was our first reaction! We had been watching this storm for over an hour, both visually and on radar. We heard a big roar, and being Kansas natives with tornado experience, instinctively headed downstairs, just as the wind took out some trees. This weather event was NOT a surprise.

Hi Chachie,

Our community dock's slips are too small for the Cobalt, so we're on a waiting list at Indian Point. The boat is in our shop getting a thorough cosmetic and mechanical intervention, so it was safely indoors. Our house is actually on the opposite side of our cove from Indian Point. We're far enough up the cove we can hear the train and the coasters from Silver Dollar City quite clearly.

ky3.com has a live stream of the raising of the Duck. It's on the surface now and they are dewatering it to get it floating.
