Swim Step

So finally, at 68 I have my dream boat. R5 with Arch and Windlass. Everything is a wowee until its time to get out of the water. My wife has two of the titanium plates infused with bone marrow one in her neck and one in her back. The kids, grandchildren and dog all love the step but gramps and grandma who put down the 150 large are struggling. Please don’t say exercise and lose weight, we got doctors for that. our dealer installed the two step cobalt recommended ladder. Really. That’s funnier than funny, wish I could bend my knees up to my chest, when that’s done were both laughing so hard forget it. So we need some help with a ladder idea.

would a metal bar attached to the boat just above the swim step help?
When you get on the swim step try putting your back to the boat then put your butt on the swim step, then hands on the swim platform lift your butt to the boat, then stand up on the swim step and turn around? This worked for my mother in law. Though the R5 swim platform does sit higher out of the water than 220.

I'm not familiar with the swim platforms on the R5. Do you have enough room to mount one of these?

our dealer has been in touch with the factory. They sent him the steel plate that goes inside the platform for mounting of a similar 2 step. Trouble is as you go from a 2 to 3 or 4 the mounting bracket becomes to wide for the available space. I’m needing to know what others have done to solve the problem.

I do as suggested above. I face outward and kind of do a "dip" weight lifting move to raise my butt onto it. I have actually considered an additional ladder off to the side though as well. If your going that route i know cobalt used to have a ladde that had a small step platform at the bottom. It looked user friendly

Rather than using the traditional ladder with rungs I'd look at the telescopic cylinder type. I can't remember the brand name... but someone will. I had it on my 240 and now on my 262.

They come with steps on each side. Super easy to climb up.

Add this. Or I'll swap you swimplatforms. Mines on the water.

Thank you Boats By George. You listed to our “ old people” problem with the swim step and solved it.
It may not look like a cobalt authorized option. But it works for us. Thank You. Thank You

They made it possible for us to get out of the water. If you don’t have the flex ability or upper body strength. Like I said. The Kids, grandchildren and dog love the swim step. Gramps and grandma have a problem, Bad knees, bad back, low flexibility. We love sitting on it. Getting into the water. Getting out should be as easy as getting in. I’m not saying any thing bad, we just needed to find a safe easy way for us.

Exactly. We understand exactly why you had the platform modified. But we can't tell what they did to help you out.

They added what looks like a ladder with quick mount to the side of the swim step.
