88 mph does seem super slow considering a Tesla Model S P100D does the 1/4 mile in 10.44 seconds at 124 mph!
An electric boat is a cool idea but the batteries would weigh and cost too much. I drive a Tesla Model S 85D with a battery that weighs 1200 lbs and it only has about 220 miles worth of range or less the way I drive it. Nobody knows the replacement cost on a Tesla battery because so far they are all under the 8 year warranty but the best guess is that it is somewhere in the $35k range for a new battery. R5 Surf goes through about 8GPH so it would need a battery that weighed about 4,000 lbs and cost $100K+ to get range the same as my 48 gallon tank. I guess it would make a great full time surf boat!! We will have to wait until the battery tech improves and comes down in cost.
