Aqua Marine Deck vs. Seadek

Post by jasonm »

I have been getting quotes from Aqua Marine Deck and Seadeck.

To cover the same areas Aqua Marine was quoting $700 (veteran discount, including shipping and a logo) vs. Seadek who is asking bascially $1300 (not including shipping or logo).

When I told SeaDek their quote was $600 higher they told me to go to this:
"Thank you for your feedback. If you did want to compare our product a little further-- please click the link here. If you have any other questions regarding our product, or the 3M adhesive formula that is exclusive to Seadek, please let me know." The link is below.
https://scwake.com/why-seadek/

I am not sure if I can justify being able to by the Aquamarine Decking x2 for the same cost as SeaDek.

Does the SeaDek really last that much longer?

Any input is appreciated thanks. I have attached the areas I was going to have done like YT's mats.
These are the areas I was going to have done. Disregrad the numbers on the picture. They were there to help clarify things with Aqua Mat.

Be sure and check the thickness of the material. You should be able to get a sample of each for free. I have the seadek and love it! I am sure which ever you choose it will be a huge improvement over bare fiberglass.

Ok. First of all it stinks it comes down to these 2 companies. Neither of them have good customer service. Aqua started off ok but as you can see from the issues we are having. Nauti's used a guy by them and that's who I would be calling for a quote.
Ok
Really I don't think their products are that much diff to justify any price diff.
I'm done.

Our guy isn't exactly killing it right now. Texted him today basically telling him I wanted to know when he could get to our storage unit so that I could give him thousands of dollars in exchange for $200 worth of foam w/ some 3m adhesive on the back. I know the stuff is cut custom to the boat and that takes some design and CNC time but the profit margin on this stuff has to be crazy. He hasn't called me back.

+1 on the thickness (we did the new 6mm) and you also might want to make sure they are cutting it all the same way...some might save on material and have the brush lines on the material itself going in different directions to help save...we specifically told our guy that we wanted the brush lines all running the same way to that required another sheet, which upped our cost, but worth it!

So here I go. After seeing YT’s I went with aqua marine. The product was cheaper than sea deck and the quality seemed great. So I ordered it based off a template for my boat that they already had. Well it was off an 2003 262 mine is a 2002. So I get it and my walk thru transom mat was cut wrong see attached pictures. So I said eh it’s not that bad i’ll Live with it. Well due to the fitment issue not even a week later it starts peeling up next to my swim deck. So I call customer service and left a message. 3 days go by no phone call. So I called literally 8 times in 1 hour until finally someone answered their phone. Talked with Ashley she said email me pictures and I will talk to the guys. A week goes by I finally get an email back saying that my boat must be different so they are going to send me some stuff to make a template. I said no just send me another mat. And she says sir we aren’t going to waste money sending you another mat when Cobalt made your boat different. She actually said that. So I agree to do the template. I send it to them they call me and say that my lines are to “erratic” and they cannot make a cut. They need another. I just said no either send me a new mat or refund me. They refused to. So my sea grass carpet is going back in my walk through. And when my swim deck goes south in a few years I will take my money elsewhere.

Sorry for the long rant but that is beyond poor customer service

Why don't you just dispute the credit card charge?

I bet that gets it resolved ASAP.

Here is a photo of my SeaDek. Nauti is right. No matter who you use be sure and check the brushed pattern as well as the faux teak lines. These are expensive stickers but if take your time installation is a breeze. I not only had to make a template for my order but also did two dry fits too make sure the fit was just the way I wanted it. Those drain holes can be tricky. The whole process tool much longer than I would have liked but in the end I am very happy with the results. Many friends and family have complimented the new look and feel and have asked how much was the professional installation. 😂. No matter who you choose, patients is the key. Otherwise, look into having it professionally installed and let them deal with SeaDek or Aquamarine.

I made the purchase in early June, received my mats in mid July, and have been fighting them ever since. Probably to late now to dispute the charge

Been dealing with Seadek myself. Not pleased with the timeliness, I'll be winterized before I get it shipped to me.

And FWIW- Seadek will no longer put the Cobalt name.or crest on their products. Must've gotten their hand slapped for copyright infringement.

Yea I tried that months ago. I even had my Dealer call cobalt through the rep still no deal. I even tried the company that currently does Cobalt now and Cobalt still wouldn't give them permission. They said because it's not a current boat and they don't have templates left for them to use they can't put a logo on. So that is the reason I have Aqua on my boat. 3 months later I think it was. It's not perfect but I'm living with it.

The waiting time is the killer indeed. Took me 5 months from start to finish and that includes making the down payment after I received my quote while spending 3 weeks in China. I had to call late at night to complete the transaction.

There is a reason I routed my own. Too expensive and I don't deal well with bad customer service. Plus I get satisfaction from doing things myself.

When its time to replace I'll be doing the same. I hope you have some detailed pictures showing how you did yours. :D
