I've got a 2014 R5 WSS with the Volvo Penta V8 380DP. I've just gone over 420hrs and it was recommended to me earlier today by the local boat yard that the outdrive should be removed at a minimum every other year to do a visual inspection on the drive shaft, gimbles and the bellows. Is this common or has anyone had to do this?

Our marine mechanic recommends the same... We have him pull the outdrive every other year to get better look at things and that way we can keep a small problem from becoming a bigger problem!
Oh and welcome to the forum! Go to the new members section and tell us more about your R5. Pics are a must!

I always thought every 100 hours. Get in and grease the ujoints. And stuff. Make sure she's still lined up.
Oh and welcome. Without pictures it doesn't exist.
I'm glad it's black!!

Welcome and yes you’re due . As things can change having the drive pulled and the engine alignment can give long life to ujoints and gimbals. Also us OEM bellows .
Oh and where’s the pics??

Welcome. As said, main reason to pull the drive is to grease the u joints and inspect the gimble bearing and bellows.
