Batteries and Charger Recomendations

I recently purchased a 2007 to 222S, with a 5.7 L Volvo. I have a dual battery set up with a selector switch. I am trying to decide what is the best battery set up for the boat. Should I run a cranking bettery and a deep cycle marine battery? What type of battery, wet, agm...? The boat is docked in Virginia, so we do have periods of very cold weather (teens).

What have people had the most success with, and what brand would you recommend.

I am also looking for a dual battery charger that would be kept at my dock and has the ability to provide smart charging over the winter, and during the summer between boat usage. What products have people had the most success with. I see mixed reviews for a number of chargers. Thanks for everybody’s help.

I like 2 deep cycle batteries and have had best
Luck with higher end store batteries.
I also installed this in my boat and have been happy with it.

I run 2 deep cycles in mine as well. I just get them from Costco because they will literally take anything back if it fails.

Then I have the promariner 20 amp 2 bank on board charger on my boat and so far it has worked great leaving it plugged in to tender and keep the batteries at temp all winter. I keep my boat lifted on the dock all winter. So very similar situtation to you.

There's freaky only a couple of battery manufactures. Johnson Controls is one. I run 2 deep cycles with 1000 CCA starting capacity. You can run 1 starting battery and 1 house battery also. Really up to you Ive had good luck with 2 deep cycles.

I run dual group 10 deep cycle batteries, and I can drain one dead in about 4 hours running the stereo in my other (not Cobalt shhh) boat. The Cobalt came with dual starting batteries, so I'll be swapping those out for the group 10s since I'm beefing up the stereo.

I added a second agm battery to match the one I had and installed a Blue Sea switch with charging relay. I maintain them both with an onboard Promariner 20 amp duel bank charger. Been very happy.
