263 tilt to the left an very low in the water

Hi everybody,

I own a 263 from 2001 with a VolvoPenta 8,1Gi engine in it.

I love the boat, but there is one thing I´m not able to adjust:

The boat is somewhat "tilt" to the left, and in totall very "low" in the water on that side.
(See pictures, on the right side the "white stripe" is completly" out of the water.)

=> I already took out the fresh water tank that is on this side of the boat, but no significant change ....
=> the batteries are on that side to, so I put al the equipment on the other side ... but again no significant change ....

Two friends of mine own the same boat, with a Mercruiser engine (witch shouldn`t make much difference, its about the same weight ...)
=> But their boat sits perfectly balanced in the water....

Anyone experienced the same problem?
Or has an idea how this could be fixed?!

Greetings Peer

What side are the batteries on?

It appears she’s sits in the water?

Very possible you’re having water intrusion to the inner core as possibly a result of a deep gouging or even a rear tie down hook that’s below water line.

Have the boat inspected with a water meter and or a survey expert with provisions for testing.. it happens as a core can act like a sponge and hold hundreds of pounds of water weight.

It’s fixable once it’s determined and once the location of entry has been sealed.

Peer, our 263 sits the same way in the water as yours (which you can see from the picture). Now that's with two 100 pound Trojan batteries and a full 10 gallon (70 pounds) potable water tank on that port side in addition to items stored under the port seats. Not sure what your friends have stored under their seats but we use every ounce of space on that side.

BTW, once we put our six tubes in the engine compartment with the majority of them on the starboard side, plus the ice and drinks in the starboard ice chests, it just about evened out the static stance (not pictured.) I wouldn't be too concerned about it....unless you notice some bad handling characteristics. (of which we have none). :P

what do you mean by "inner core"? (Sorry my englisch is not so perfect...)
I can see no water anywhere, I inspected the areas I could reach with an endoscope as well, no water to be found?!
(Also the insisde of the hocks can be seen from the engine compartment, they are dry as well ...)

ok, so I´m not the only one :D

The two batteries that are installed are not so big, but yes there is some tools and stuff under the seats, so in total that might add...

Handling while under way ist good (but then I`m standiing on the starboard side, that might even ist out ;) :D )

I was thinking the same. You won't see the water. It's under your floor sitting between the layers of fiberglass and your stringers. I agree get a moisture meter. But after what A7 says it maybe normal with the load in your boat. I would first empty everything in the boat then float it and see how she sits.

BB and others, I could be wrong, but I think the only place where water intrusion in the core is possible on the 263 is the transom plate in the center of the boat. My understanding of the construction of these years (similar to my 250, which is why I've looked into it) is that there aren't any layers of construction where water can reside (except for the swim platform - ha!). The center 'flat' area where the outdrive transom mounts is foam cored and could conceivably store water, but IMHO it's too close to the centerline to cause a list like this. I'd be happy to be corrected, if I'm wrong on this, though.

Hey pal!
The concern for me is a possible gouge in the side thats below waterline, and that is allowing the glass mat to be exposed and wicking water in the layer. Not a through hole leak that would be visable in the bilge.

I’m profiling a tad as it’s a boat that sits in the water and the OP seemed concerned suddenly as if it had changed it’s natural sitting.

May just be sitting in it’s happy place depending on load? We’ll never know right?

Assuming that the glass was laid up correctly, it really shouldnt be able to wick in any water, though.

263 center transom mount......

That's the center part I was referring to. If that was soaking up water, it could sit low, but I wouldn't have thought it would cause it to list. Maybe that + the batteries?

Mine was bone dry and lists slightly to the left due to the reasons mentioned in my post SRR.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but my original post was in support of your theory and experience.

I do not think that that generation of hull could soak in water in such a way to cause a list even if it had a cut in the side.
