Strange issue with dash lights

When I turn on the running lights, the dash lights come on - for about 1 second - then off. I tried changing the dimmer setting, and turning the ignition off and on. Neither had any effect. I’ll be diagnosing this further, but wondered if any members had experience with this situation. Thanks.

Dash lights are on the circuit breaker I thought so the fact that it can be repeated makes me wonder if a relay is switching upstream for power out to the dash lights.

Your going to need a 12v multi and determine source before your breaker. It would apear there is s short ... loose connection or high amp load .you may want to bypass your dimmer ( riostat switch).

This one was fixed fast. I took the dimmer switch out of the dash and bypassed it with jumper. The dash lights came on as the should. I blew some dust out of the dimmer switch and tested it with another 12v source. The switch worked. I connected the switch to the dash and put it back in the dash. Everything works as it should.

Good deal. Those and tether switches do get carboned up is why bypassing is part of the process.
You may want dimmed dash at night for glare , so get it replaced and you’ll be ready for night driving!
