Factory battery setup

Haven’t taken delivery of my 2011 242 yet, but starting to plan the upgrades. Do these boats have one or two batteries from the factory? Seems like a second battery with isolator for the stereo and other toys would be an important upgrade.

Each boat is different with batteries. It prob has both. You may want to add a charger though.

Never quite understood why a boat would come without onboard charging system... definitely an immediate upgrade there

That boat is almost identical to mine. 2011 242 Cobalt blue and white. Here's a photo of the boat, and one of where I mounted my charger.

In addition, the Starboard battery is a real pain to fill with water because it is mounting under the body at the back. I installed an auto fill system on both batteries. Makes life a lot easier.

I would love be able to plug ours in after a day on the water but no electric at our storage facility.

The charger is an option box I didn't "tick" on my new boat. Why? My boat will be moored in a slip that has no access to power. At the end of the season, it is winterized, shrink-wrapped and stored at the dealer's outdoor facility. There is no power at that location either.

Last fall when I dropped my 210 off, I had the dealer remove the batteries and I took them home and put them on a float charger for the winter.

Thinking about it, I may decide to store my boat in a heated facility this winter. If the facility has power available, the charger might be an option to consider.

Everyone uses their boat differently. We can easily kill a battery listening to music on the lake all day. In that case having a battery charger at the dock or in storage makes a lot of sense. Roll up plug in and you are ready to go the next day.

Driller - Did you go with the dual battery fill setup (with a long jumper tube between the two batteries, or just install each on their own with their own fill line?

I went with 2 separate systems. 1-my batteries are a long way apart setting on the Port and Starboard Sides, 2-if you go with the long setup then you have to have a dip in the tube and this would put the line very low in the engine compartment, and 3- although I think the risk is very, very, low there is a slight possibility if something went very wrong the water in the tubing could conduct electricity from one battery to the other taking out both batteries. Not worth saving a few of dollars. Just takes a few seconds extra to plug into the fill hose twice.

I like it. That's the way I was leaning to go on mine as well. Not sure how much I liked the idea of a long hose going across the back from one battery to another.
