Sony MEX-M70BT Head Unit

Can I keep current head unit Sony MEX-M70BT and get a good 6 channel amplifier to run my 6 XS-650-S-RGB-KL 100 watt speakers? If you have good amp and speakers does head unit matter? Thanks, 2010 Cobalt 242

Not as much as days gone by when we used things like CD's as audio sources and relied on on board DAC's
Make sure its it's got a good selection of inputs - Aux 3.5, Bluetooth or even USB iPhone Control.
If you are running external Amp's most important will be the number of pre-outs on the Head Unit. Our Sony which I think is a model or two ahead of that one has a dedicated sub level output and two other sets of Pre-outs.

I have a bad one of those head units. If you want to donate it to a good cause I need one. I have the head unit 1 up from that one and I can't complain.

I kept my old MB Quart head unit on my 2011 242. Replaced all the speakers with JLs, added an 8 channel JL amp, a 10" JL sub, and a bluetooth receiver. A world of difference in the sound. I happy with it and didn't have to replace the remotes at the helm and transom. The old head unit is good enough for me.
