200 Bow Cushion Removal Question

Post by Grim1 »

I just purchased my first boat, a 2014 Cobalt 200, and after searching this site and others, I cannot find the answer to this question. So any help is appreciated. Does the starboard side bow seat cushion remove to provide access to a storage compartment? The port side cushion does not remove since it is above the main storage locker accessible from behind the windscreen, but the starboard side is a mystery to me. It feels like it should pop off, as there is some free play, and what feels like a latch or tab holding it in place. I have tried all manner of sliding, pulling etc but to no avail. Front anchor locker opens without any difficulty.

Pics would help. Have you looked up under the helm to see if you can access the back of the bow cushion?

I just traded a 2016 210, which is very similar to your boat, however the bow areas are different. My starboard and port bow seat cushions did lift out and the seat backs flipped forward to access storage. Looking at the owners manual, it is not clear which seat cushions have storage under them. You might find something about storage in the 2014 Cobalt 200 owners manual located here: https://cobaltboats.com/art/manuals/2014_200_OM.pdf

Hey grim1. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum.

So glad you found us!

Our larger series Cobalt allows that cushion to pull up. I would think the same is true for the 200 but others who own that model will chime in shortly.

Like Akor mentioned, pics with certainly help. We love them here. 👌🏻

Again welcome aboard mate!

I assume this is what your bow looks like?

Thanks to those attaching electronic copies of the manual, always handy to have. I have the hardcopy and have invested a fair bit of time looking into this, including asking the previous owner who advised that he had plenty of storage in the rear area, so never looked into it. The photo posted by akorvelos is an accurate description. I will look under the helm area also. One thing I have noticed is that boat manuals are very much geared towards liability protection vs how things actually work. Not a complaint, just means one has to do a bit more work to figure things out. I suspect boat manufacturers don't have the resources to put out descriptive manuals that motorcycle and car manufacturers can. Regardless, I am already enjoying the learning process.

What you need is the service manual, which, unless you find a dealer going out of business is going to be unobtainium for a boat that new. I would be very surprised if the seat cushion didn't lift up for storage on the starboard side. As mentioned previously, on the larger models the seat and the back rest open up for storage.

Ok if you take it the small frt bow one first then try to remove that cushion. It's kind of like the 190 seats. I've never looked but in sure it pops up too. Aj how is yours?

I can remove all three seats on mine and it looks very similar. But I can not remove the seat backs.

Mine in my 200s does not come up. I can take the anchor storage or center bow cushion out and I can feel a screw that has been run from the bottom up into the cushion base. Not sure why but everything you described is the same as mine. It moves slightly and feels like it should but it does not come out. Had a rookie sales person at a boat show tell me that there were electronics under it so it was fastened down.(he could not answer any other question that I had but seemed confident in his answer) I just discovered this Friday and because of rain I have not had a chance to try and remove it to see. I will this weekend and will post pics.

Did he say what electronics are under there? I can't think of anything beyond the helm.

I’m sure with some tools you can discover what’s below. I peeked at the manual and it doesn’t point to those areas for storage? Or for any wiring?

I loce a good mystery...

I am beginning to think it isn't supposed to lift now based on the above. There is a cable running from the anchor locker which I assume is from bow lights into the area under starboard seat. Next time I am at the local Cobalt dealer here in Kelowna I will ask them, but at any rate I am more than happy with the existing storage on this boat.

I'm removing the screws and getting the cushion off. If it's me. I would move and support the harness or off the way and gain more storage. There's never enough. Can't wait for pictures. Break out the tools boys.
