Agreed Matt. My dad just said the same thing when I emailed that video to him. He was also impressed (as was I) that the 317 mph boat record still stands as the fastest in history....from the 1970's!....using wood & fiberglass from a backyard project & a $69 auctioned jet engine.
Maybe he and his boy will shatter that record again with the new technology available today. At some point I would think it would become an airplane that's just landing on the water driving around for a bit.

I imagine a similar design in composite frame and carbon fiber, with a more efficient and lighter power plant would break the record, but damn you'd have to be crazy to go that fast on water.
