New Owner, mooring cover vs. tonneau snaps?

The boat is an R5 with tower, it will be stored on a covered lift, and it will rarely if ever be towed on the highway.

I really want the option that is easiest to put on and take off.

Both are a little bit of a pain in my opinion but with practice if you can get the mooring cover off as fast that's what I would use. Just because of better coverage. I had a waterline cover made last year and I'm very happy with it. The tonneau works well but leaves more exposed areas for the bird poop and the bugs will still crawl in between the snaps sometimes.

I bought a mooring cover new with my 210 back in 2015, and it sees plenty of highway use. No regrets so far, and no visible rub marks on the boat.

Yeah definitely get the mooring cover. Snaps seem like they would be a pain and I am probably being pretty petty but don't like seeing all the snaps around the bow of the boat.

The time it takes really depends on the mooring cover. Mine is a little cumbersome since it goes all the way to the water line and has cleat cutouts and fits pretty tight once you ratchet it down. I am getting faster but right now it takes me just as long with the mooring cover as the tonueau but I love the coverage.

This too. I had actually made a deal on a slightly used r7. Got there to look at it and it had the snaps all over. I walked away. For that kind of money I wasn’t going to deal with snaps and cleaning around them

Its the only thing I regret getting with my R5. Like Tgrace said, the snaps are a pain to clean around and not pleasant to look at. The mooring cover on my 220 was easy to put on even while in water and covered everything well.

Oh go for it and get both covers! Come re-sale you will get your money back. The snap covers are great if you trailer your boat. The coverage isn't as good as the mooring covers. However, I have to put the poles in my mooring cover to keep the rain from pooling on the cover. The poles are a pain in the arse if you are by yourself. The snap covers are tight enough the the rain doesn't pool so don't have to use the poles.

My question is, for those of us who moor in the water, does the stern end of the cover which also covers the swim platform touch the water? If it does, I'm afraid a mooring cover would be all slimy by the end of the season where I boat. Further to that, if you moor in the water, you have to stand on the mooring cover to ratchet it tight, don't you? How does that work?

I'd like a mooring cover as well, but I'd probably buy both if I was unsure. Trying to fit cockpit covers later would be a real pain - trying to get all of the male snaps in the right position on the deck.

For what it's worth, I asked my local dealer about picking a mooring vs cockpit covers. He said 98% of the people who buy boats from him pick the cockpit covers. He didn't say why. I can see how people with walk around access on a lift would find the mooring cover easier.

If you are in a slip it is not an issue. You only ratchet the one side from the dock. Other just stays rachated all the time

Thanks. Now I kind of feel like I want both. If I get a mooring cover and decide later I’d have preferred co pit cover, I’d rather have the snaps mounted by the factory for the. Odds to fit but it’s wasteful to get both.
