Hi all

I just got a 2017 R30 with the cobalt glass cockpit (dual Garmin 7607s). The firmware is massively out of date (version 9 vs 15 online).

Has anyone done a firmware update?

Seems simple, download the file from Garmin on a microsd card and insert into the unit.

Not on a 7600, but yeah, the Garmin firmware update process is about that easy.

I've done it. (And will do it again when we come out of storage.)

Follow those instructions and you'll be fine! Easy.

hmm maybe I should do this. My 19' is on version 14 I believe.

All the new technology has me wondering what happens if the system goes on the fritz? I guess as long as you have a reliable read on how much fuel you have and a compass, everything else isn't critical for getting home. I have no experience with EVC though. I know the throttle is fly by wire, but what about the steering?

Perspective, I guess. I don't totally disagree. I just "upgraded" my home automation system and had to put 10+ hours in to getting things back in order - so I get it.

The Garmin updates do come with some nice features if you're in to nerdy things.
1) Updated maps/charts
2) WiFi connectivity from your iPad/Phone
3) blah blah blah

I figure do it (or learn how) now while it's under warranty.

You get ONE map update as part of their guarantee that you have the latest maps with any marine product sold, but subsequent map updates come at a price.

I tend to update firmware on my various electronics devices once a new version comes out (including things like iOS) but rarely within a few days of it being released. I've seen enough revisions pulled back after bricking devices or updated right away to be the first guinea pig in the wild to "test" new software.

I wasn't aware of the map upgrade limitation. Thanks!

I wonder if the Volvo Penta EVC engines in the 10 and R series support these functions that are part of the 7600 updates?

Added EVC Maintenance Assistant, for supported engines.
Added EVC Oil Level Features, for supported engines.
Added EVC Driveline Information page, for supported engines.

I'll find out when I do the upgrade the next time I see my boat!

Performed the upgrade this weekend while on the hook in the cove. Took about 20 minutes or so to run through all the updates (you'll need a 16GB MicroSD card -

Boot up time was significantly improved along with a ton of new features I'm still trying out. I got my phone connected via bluetooth so notifications now show up on the screens which is pretty nice - especially underway.

Hmm I might have to do this. Mine are on 12.xx

Not sure why but use scandisk. That's all fca wants us to use also.

Hell it might be worth it just to quicken the boot up time. Takes forever.......
