Torpedo transducer mounting location?

Looks like flooding may shut the lakes down by the weekend, so plan B is to install my Lowrance HDS chart plotter. I’ve installed several transducers on other boats with traditional flat transom designs. At a bit of a loss on where to mount on the extended running surface transom Cobalt uses. Anyone have any advice before I start drilling?

Yeah good point as in the extended area is far away but I wonder if she’d be shooting a slight rooster all the time . Plus you’ll hate seeing it there.
My vote would be inside your starboard lifting chine / strake but your bunk is there. I’m thinking left of the bunk but not to close to the prop as then it will cavatate air . Hey we’re shooting for 64 mph right?

I think my preference would be in the same area as Matt - around where the yellow dot is in the attached photo:

I agree. That’s a prime location with minimal prop and hull turbulence.
That dot looks more green than yellow though John. Maybe I need to get my eyes checked.

Kind of what I was thinking, I think Lowrance says 18" from keel which puts it pretty close to where you guys are talking about. I plan to mount it flush with the bottom and tilted slightly up to work while at cruising speeds, Still makes me a little nervous about the bunk and loading....also looking forward to the 1" hole I get to drill up next to the exhaust.
Certainly don't want it to impact performance, 64 fingers and toes crossed.

the green dot is about where I had the simrad total scan transducer on my 262 I tried to find an old picture but I must of done some phone cleanup and deleted it. Mine was a little closer to the drive but not much due to having trim tabs. Only issue I had is when I would get above 30mph the depth finder would work intermitted. Part of that could have been though that I boat a very deep lake and the total scan transducer only works up to 200ft.

good read here on 'best practice' for mounting high speed transducers. Looks like a nice product too, but I'd rather drill 2 small holes and save the $130 for fuel.

Also ordered a through hull fitting with a beauty cover, and some cable stays to make it as clean an install as possible.

OK, it's me. I'm the one who's red-green colorblind (seriously). I can't reliably see the difference between green and some yellows/browns.

For what it's worth, I stuck mine down in the center of the bilge with blue tack, the sticky clay stuff that you can get at a hardware store, to act as a thru-hull of sorts. It loses the bottom at cruising speed (30-35 mph) if the depth is over 60-70 ft, but it works great up to 120 ft when anchored or idling around in coves (which was my main intent when installing it). It's been mounted this way and working well for almost a year now and it even detects fish size and depth pretty well.

wait, you glued a transom mount transducer to the interior of the hull like a puck and it works?

wait, you glued a transom mount transducer to the interior of the hull like a puck and it works?
I heard it will give you depth, but no contour. There's no in hull which gives side scan or contour.

That’s interesting, never even thought about doing that. I want full chart plotter functionality though. Got everything but the actual transducer in today, should have everything tomorrow but it’s looking like the lake will be open so we all know what’s happening and what’s not.
