Shallow water boat lift for R5

Post by tfarmer »

New dock is being install later this week or early next week. I need to get a lift installed. My installer is suggesting a 10,000 lb lift. However, this lift is not a shallow water lift which I think I need. He indicated his shallow water lifts are 6,500 lbs max. and didn't think it would be big enough to handle my boat. The weight of the R5 is 4,880 lbs. Since I don't have deep water all year round I would like a shallow water lift. Does anyone thing the 6,500 lbs lift will be able to handle my boat?

I have a R7 which is 5600lbs dry and my boat floater 6600lb lift picks up my R7 with a full tank of gas and gear with no problem. You will be fine with an R5.

A 6500 pound lift will be more than enough. My 263 sit in a 6000 pound lift with zero issues.

How would a lift rated at 6500 lbs not be able to manage a boat that weighs almost 2000 lbs less?

Just sounds to me his installer wanted to sell him a more expensive lift. a 10k lift requires 2 blowers and more pontoons.

It will work but I’d go a bit bigger. One you get gear, fuel, and 5-6 people on board you’ll be bumping up against that limit. How shallow is the water? My ShoreStation for the R5 is a 7500 lb. hydraulic lift and I think it can be used in 36” of water which you would need for forward drive anyway. Mine sit in about 4.5 feet of water.

I never lift the boat all the way with people on board. I will lift it just enough to catch the boat from bouncing around let everyone and their gear get off then put the boat up. My boat lifts the boat to high for most people to get off the boat with it all the way up.

I figure gas weighs about 6.4 lbs per gallon and with a 48 gallon tank that adds roughly 307 lbs to the base weight of the boat of 4880 lbs. so i think I’m still going to be well under 6500 lbs. I’m going with the 6500 lbs lift and give feedback when I’ve used it the first time.

I've got my 242 on a 6600# lift. No problem. It is about the same length and weight as an R5.
