Opinions please?

I've been on this forum for a long time, but this is my first post. We are looking at 2007 Cobalt 222, 6.2 Merc, Bravo 3, 497 hours. Looks to be well taken care of. Questions are: Is it a good fit for a family of 5, occasionally up to 10? What's expected top speed? Any known problems with motor? Thanks.

Hey it's your lucky day, we have that exact boat.

Family of 5 no problem at all, we have 5 adults and 2 kids on ours about every weekend. 10 adults would be tight, I think the most we have ever had on ours was 7 or 8 and that's about as many as I would want to go. The 222 layout is great, we love the side pass-through, it was a selling point of the boat for us.

Top speed with me the wife the dog and a full tank of gas is 54mph on the speedo 50mph GPS.

We bought the boat /w 97 hours on it, so far no problems /w the 6.2. I love the engine / drive combo. It jumps on plane and the 6.2 has power through the entire RPM range.

We have had ours for about 3 years, so if you have any other questions just let me know happy to help out.

Hey 3M. Welcome to the Cobalt chat forum. Thanks for coming out of the woodwork. :P

That 222 will work just fine for 5. If your are loading up small kids as well, you can certainly increase that number. You do lose some seating with the side entry since the majority of the time you get the “stool” to sit on behind the captain’s chair in this configuration. With higher numbers of pax onboard, load balancing may be necessary unless you have trim tabs installed.

Great motor and outdrive on that boat. You should see 50 mph or more with excellent hole shot due to the duo-prop Bravo III.

Overall, great choice. Purchase away. 👌🏼

Btw, any pics of your possible new addition?🤔

And a formal welcome aboard mate!

.

That looks in really good shape for the year. Looks like standard Stereo, the premium will have two amps in the front storage compartment and a sub woofer in front of the passenger seat. The docking lights are a plus, we never use ours but they sure look cool lol. Does it have captains call exhaust or not? The 6.2 sounds really good with the through hull exhaust.

I would jump on it if the price is right. There are a couple things that drive us crazy about the model that I figured I would mention. Don't get me wrong, we love the 222, these are not deal breakers, just things we noticed after we had the boat out a few times:

First and perhaps my biggest complaint the snaps for the carpet that covers the cooler and ski locker are on the OUTSIDE of the openings. You can't access either without first unsnapping the carpet. Someone at cobalt was having a bad day the day they designed that.

Second, the ladder on ours is super short only 2 steps. There is also nothing to grab on the boat to pull yourself up. The 2008 model fixed this with a grab bar on the platform. I have looked at replacing the ladder with something a little longer, doesn't look too hard to do just haven't gotten there.

Small stuff, and its a great boat. Ours rides great even in chop, they have a ton of storage, 3 insulated coolers including the huge one in the floor, and the 6.2 really isn't THAT bad on gas.

Buy it.

Are you sold on a 222? Great boat I bought one drove it and it rides great. I guess it would depend on the price to me on how quick I would jump on it. It looks clean.
Would you want a 220? I am working with a guy that has a clean low hour one with a 8.1 in it and captains call for low 30s. Just saying. It's yellow.

The 222 is the better boat. Small block's are the engine of the future, you know it, you just don't want to be forced to change your username to SmallBlockPower and lose your 10,000 posts. Who wants to be running around the lake in a big gas guzzling 8.1 with a loud exhaust....lame.

Sorry BBP wife doesn't like the bench across the back and she likes the side walk thru.

Don't have to say sorry to me. Everyone likes diff set ups. All good. Let's get this deal done. It's a great package. If it didn't have a BB I would want the 6.2. Great power.
Ok What exact trailer are they including with the boat. In there ad they are showing a shorelander. I personally think they are a few k too high based on the market value.

The trailer in the first set of pics is the same Heritage that ours came /w from the factory. If that's what comes with it then good, its a great trailer and the boat sits on it well. Just make sure to review the entire brake system. Ask how I know.

Trailers threw me off also but it's the blue Heritage that comes with it. The brakes will get a full inspection for sure. I will know tomorrow for sure if it's a done deal.

I have an immaculate 220 with the 6.2, Captains Call Exhaust, Trailer, Bravo 3, etc.

Been on the fence of selling it. No rips, tears, gouges, etc.

I'd save you 8k. Plus we all know, the 220 is where its at...
