Newbie from Lake of the Woods Ontario

Post by LOTWCS22 »

Hi All,
We pick up our CS22 on July 2, can't wait. Long time lakers, but first Cobalt. Comes with 280, dual prop. Quite the upgrade from the little 16' Campion we've had for years....now it's relegated to trips with crummy docks. Here she is, sorry about orientation. No name yet....

Welcome to the Cobalt chat forum. So glad you found us!

I rotated the pic for ya. Beautiful shot

Any engine pics? :D Btw, landscape mode on your phone works best for uploads so they don’t post sideways or upside down.

Again, welcome aboard mate!

Welcome from Illinois. One of my favorite classic Cobalt color combos.

Thanks! This area is pretty much Lund and SeaRay dominated, but Cobalts are starting to show themselves lately.

Welcome from Lake Winnipeg!

I'm assuming your purchase was from WSL (Winnipeg or Kenora). They are great to deal with. I purchased a new 2016 Cobalt 210 from them last year and have a new R3 on order, probably arriving in the same shipment as yours. Mine is scheduled to be delivered on July 2nd as well. I'd have taken it on June 24th, but the 1% drop in the PST will buy several tanks of gas, so I'm waiting a few days.

I am sure you will love your new Cobalt. I'm a bit confused though. If you don't have the boat yet, what boat are we looking at? :)

HI BR99 - you are correct WSL in Kenora. So far we are really happy with them. The pic was from our sea (lake) trial. They had the boat in stock. We left it with them for our trip back to the states and for them to install a rain top added to the bimini; as well as for time to get boathouse slip lengthened. (We live on an island, so rain or shine we need to take the boat.) Took some convincing but they agreed NOT to drill I don't know how many snaps holes in the stainless frame. I suggested another way utilizing the already in place cover snaps. Sure wish I had known about the 1% sales tax drop...Hope to see you on pick up day!!

Actually, mine will be delivered - no trailer at this point because I don’t have a tow vehicle. WSL is super accommodating

They delivered my last boat as well, as part of the deal. I think they must deliver for many customers on Lake of the Woods as I’m told most don’t buy trailers as their boats live summers in boat houses (on lifts when not in use) and winters at WSL in storage. I don’t think any of those customers go lake hopping.

It’s the same with me, I put my boat in the water (wet slip) in mid June and haul out in mid September after which it goes to WSL for winterizing, wrapping and storage. In the spring they acid wash, clean and wax the boat and put it in the water again. I pay for the services, but less expensive than buying a tow vehicle I don't really want as a daily driver and $6,000 plus taxes on a trailer that will travel a total of 60 miles, 2X a year.

I did have a trailer for my 210. I rented a RAM 1500 for $75.00 and loaded my boat on the trailer and hauled it to the dealer for winterizing. The truck was really nice but not for me as a daily driver. I’m test driving a 2019 X5 on Monday or Tuesday though.

Welcome from Oklahoma! How about some pics from your island? I think it would be cool to have a place on an island, for the summer anyway. How do you guys do it? Electricity. Groceries. Buying furniture. Fire and EMS.Trash service. Getting around. I'm sure you have it worked out but it has always intrigued me.

The first pic of the new boat was from our dock. We are just a couple minutes from mainland, many others live much farther down lake. We have city water (plastic pipe across island) that gets shut off in winter, opens in late May. Fire and EMS pretty sure we are on our own. For fire, we have quality extinguishers at the ready and a fire hose hook up to the main water line. Mostly wood construction best thing is to put it out early. EMS, well that's a boat ride to the local hospital 5 min away. Groceries its a boat dock at Safeway. Furniture (and all building materials, cabinets, etc) if its enough we hire a barge, or we haul in my tiller steer 16' Lund (a necessity for all lakers). I'm fairly new to it (12 years or so) but my Candadian (dual citizen now) wife has been coming here since she can remember. Since you asked, here's view even our golden never tires of
