Trailer bunks

My Dorsey trailer for the 262 came with black plastic "Tie Down Engineering" plastic bunk covers. They tend to scuff up my hull and leave black streaks. My mechanic said he'd take them off and carpet the bunks. What's your thoughts? If you say carpet, anyone ever buy carpet from Lowes and use that?

You need to buy bunk carpet. Yes take it off of it's marking the hull. Google that.

Yes I've put carpet on new bunks before... Get the nice roll already to size and off you go. It's like wrapping a present...I'm good at that!

Thanks BBP, they're coming off as soon as I can get the rolls Nauti mention. I'm guessing the carpet just gets stapled on? I wonder if they make SS staples?

Yes use stainless steel ones. I bought a electric stapler too. Overtons sell it. It's everywhere.

.
I re-carpeted my last Cobalt’s 262 Dorsey trailer with bunk carpet and stainless staples. EZ to do. I think I bought blue bunk carpet at Overton’s back in 2007.

I used marine carpet from menards and 316L stainless staples from McMaster Carr. Worked fine, no issues.

I just did a similar job, but on the boat lift bunks. I used marine, UV resistant bunk carpet from Amazon. Partsvu.com also sells a good bunk carpet. I believe each roll was around $20 and would cover a few bunks.
