Finally had an evening by myself to fool around with the garmins. So many dang options for setup and layout it’s almost overwhelming! I was thinking there would be rudder position but haven’t found it. Also confused that there is no air temp and only water temp. Here is what I set up on the gauge side and still playing around with the chart side but the 3D fish view is very cool! How is everyone else setting them up like??

My 2019 R3 is a couple of weeks away, so I haven't played with the setup, but yours looks pretty good. I'm happy the system reports water temperature (kids always want to know). It would be nice to have air temperature, but my iPhone works for that (but won't tell me, water temp, of course). Have you updated your units to the current software? Some else has reported that the bootup time is much quicker now.

Did you order the rudder indicator option? I don't think you would see it on the display without it, but I have no first-hand knowledge.

The cool thing with this system is the add-ons are really simple. I would buy the air temp sensor. But yes water is more important.
Rudder would be great to have I would add that one. I can never tell when I'm gong straight. Glad they didn't have this with the Alpha drive in no wake zones as it would prob shut the engine off as it thought you were drunk.

By the way when you get yours delivered, make sure the show you how to sync the fuel gauge with the Volvo on board. I learned the hard way! I thought dealer was doing me a solid by delivering with a full tank (according to fuel gauge), but on the maiden voyage in the middle of the lake, miles from a pump, ran out of gas!! US towboat membership paid for itself that day!! Easy to keep synced up after each fill now.

Sorry to hear of your "out of gas" incident. Not pleasant, I'm sure. Where I boat there isn't anyone to tow me in (unless I call a friend).

I've ready about this problem. It seems to calibrate the sensor correctly, you start with fewer than 20 gallons in the tank and set the system, then add a certain amount and set it again and then fill it completely and set it. After that, distance to empty is supposed to be accurate. I'm trying to find the instructions for the procedure. In the meantime, the Garmin 7607 says this about the fuel gauge settings:

Configuring the Tank Level Sensors
1 From a gauges screen, select Menu > Tank Preset.
2 Select a tank level sensor to configure.
3 Select Name, enter a name, and select Done.
4 Select Type, and select the type of sensor.
5 Select Style, and select the style of sensor.
6 Select Tank Capacity, enter the capacity of the tank, and
select Done.
7 Select Calibration, and follow the on-screen instructions to
calibrate the tank levels.
If you do not calibrate the tank levels, the system uses default settings for the tank levels.

The Volvo Penta Owners Manual also provides information on how to calibrate the level sensor in the fuel tank. I doubt many dealers are doing the multipoint calibration though. I'm going to raise this with my dealer before they PDI the boat.

I assume boats with the Garmin Glass Cockpit, have this calibration done from the 7607?

From the manual:

Fuel Tank

There are two alternative methods for calibrating the
level sensor in the fuel tank.

Multipoint provides more precise results while Full Fuel
Tank Calibration is an approximate method.

Multipoint calibration is a prerequisite if the trip
computer is to show fully accurate information.

Calibration and Settings

Multipoint
In order for multi-point calibration to be carried out, the
fuel tank must not be filled to more than 20% of its total
capacity.
1 Turn to Fuel Tank in the settings menu and press
to access the calibration menu.
2 Turn to Multi-Point Calibration and press.
3 Calibration is carried out in 5 steps.
Fill the tank with the quantity shown in the display,
POS).
Wait 10 seconds.
Press to confirm that the tank has been filled
to the indicated level.
4 Fill the tank with the quantity shown in the display,
POS 2.
Wait 10 seconds.
Press to confirm that the tank has been filled
to the indicated level.
5 Repeat the procedure for POS 3, POS 4 and POS
5. Confirm by pressing the wheel at each position.

Are new boats delivered to dealers with a consistent amount of fuel? Zero?

Is the owners manual you referenced available online?

Congrats on the new R5! We took delivery on ours a few weeks ago and I'm still figuring out the Garmin Chartplotter! However, I think I can help you with the rudder indicator. On the map screen, determine which of the data fields in each corner you want to replace. Hold that space and it will allow you to replace the data. In that field, look for Vessel and then you can find Rudder. Select it and there it is! Hope that helps. I can do a quick video next time I'm on the boat if that helps.

This is super helpful... actually set this up yesterday on my Garmin. However, it doesn’t move or indicate anything. I didn’t get the rudder indicator option on the boat though, but was hoping the Garmin somehow had some indication of it given the setup. Any idea if there’s an option or calibration to get it to work?

You will have to buy the rudder sensor to make it work. No Input no work.

We are struggling with getting our dash the way we want. Our is close to yours, but missing the compass that is in the pic you posted. We have looked everywhere, drug the black Cobalt case out, googled, to no avail. What are we overlooking?
Agree on the 3D fish view, it’s nice! We finally figured out how to clear that, the screen was getting very cluttered.

Any help on finding the compass is appreciated.

Eric, I am away from the boat until the weekend but if I remember right, hold down on the gauge you want to change and it will ask you if you want to replace. then you can scroll through the different gauges to pick from. I had to scroll down to find the compass. I will try to get a video of it later this weekend.

So much to learn with this glass cockpit. It could take hours - and, it seems while you are learning (with the ignition in the "on" position), the engine hour meter is running at the same time. I wish it would also work in the accessory position.
