What Dumb thing did you do to your boat?

Post by Big Block Power »

Ok per request. I will start this as mine was before T's. On August 12th at 7:38pm of 2017 not that I remember or will I forget that day. We were done boating. I cleaned the boat up and was going to back it into the garage. Well you have to let the tower to fit it through the garage door opening. Well you have to rotate the tower legs to get it to fit. Well I only did the port side. So when I was backing in the truck it came to a abrubt stop and 4 letter words came out of my mouth. My wife was in the house and thought I just hit the back of the Garage wall with the boat. I'm like nope. So I added a 90 degree bend to the tower leg and made the call of Shame to State Farm the next day and made a visit to the Local Cobalt dealer for a estimate on a nonexistent tower.
Well State Farm came through and is fixed!! And I made a great friend with the owner of the company that fixed it. Which now is going to make my custom exhaust s-pipe for my captains call. I also posted pictures on here and still have not lived it down for 2 years. But hey all good.

Today, I put my brand-new $1500 Cobalt mooring cover, still in its box, in the back of the boat for the tow to the storage yard. And of course it was gone when I arrived.

We retraced about 75% of our steps - no box on the side of the road. I'll get the other 25% tomorrow.

Otherwise, I guess it's a call to the insurance co.

On my old boat, thought I had the hitch tightened down on the ball, turns out it had clamped on the tiny shoulder at the base of the ball, not around the actual ball. First bump over the bridge leaving my neighborhood and pop. Safety chains did their job, stopped it with my tailgate.

Well, on the first day this year, and with a boat full of friends to met up with another boat full, we started our way out of the marina, and.....oh well, you know the rest.

BB, yours was an accident. Mine was a "WTH didn't you check the blue knob while checking the oil" .. I was right there checking stuff and just didn't even consider the dump valve.😡
I'm still poed to the height of all pississity.

Ok ok ok ..
Let’s take a quiz.
What things do we do “ Only 1 Time a year” and never forget?!? haha.
No worries as that isn’t routine so you should give yourself a hall pass as it’s not part of the “ let’s go boating “ process.
Gas? ✅
Battery?✅
All fluid levels ✅
A lot of people start the motor with the hatch up we think?? so they say.?
Every time? Blower ? Every time?
It’s natural to take things for granted as we aren’t in the “ pump it 4 times and hope she starts without the need for the flame arrester to actually work.

Yeah? Well hopefully this will make you feel even better. I was trailering down to the mechanics to do a couple of small things and then winterize. It was only about 5 miles away. The cover was rolled up tightly in a ball and stuffed in fro t of the Captains chair behind the helm, and I was only going about 40. There were three or four cars behind me when I saw blowout, but by the time I found a place to turn around and go back one of those dirt clods back there had pulled over and picked it up. I searched and searched and searched both sides of the road and couldn't find it, and when I pulled over to turn around I realized none of those cars had gone by. Not until I was headed back the other direction did I see any of them. I hope the scumbag the took it has his shorts infested with fleas and chiggers

On the old boat—parked it on the street to winterize—needs to be level. Unhook the truck and got interrupted with a honeydo. Well I unhooked the coupler and raised the tongue. and forgot the safely cables. Drove off—-set of the emergency breakaway and snapped one of the coated safety cables clean. It had rusted from the inside. It showed no signs of instability from the outside if it didn’t hold up at 3mph it would have been disastrous while towing. I hate safety cables to this day and will probably replace mine next year with chains if I can retrofit.

Dumbest thing on the new boat? Does purchasing count????lol j/k

That's what I was thinking. But no.
