Hello fellow Cobalt'ers! I just found this site a couple of weeks ago while I was googling for info on our stereo. We currently have a 2013 R5 we bought new in June of 2013. It's Ice Blue, VP 380 and I think it basically has all factory options except for the windlass and trim tabs. She's been a great boat and has about 250 hours on it now.

Too long of a story to post here, but short version is we moved to MN from TN in 2015 and bought a cabin in Crosslake, on rush lake, right across the street from Moonlite Bay, a spot I'm sure most Minnesotans are familiar with. This is our 4th boat, all Cobalts; '87 (I think) Condurre (?), 1996 232, 2005 262 (still my favorite) and this R5. A few pictures for your entertainment 'cause we all know without pictures, it didn't really happen!

From water. Love the low freeboard of the 262. Looks very European and classy in my opinion.

That is how I felt when I drove the 222 vs 220. Not sure I can do the R series for that reason.

Welcome from Missouri! I’m a fellow r series owner and have also owned a 262. I debating long and hard between the r5 and 7 when upgrading from the 262. Ultimately settled on the 7. I like the high freeboard on the r7. But I’m on a very choppy section of table rock. So I use to get splashed quite a bit on the 262. But I do miss the handling of the 262 from time to time. R7 handles great for a larger bow rider but not quite as good as the 262

Totally understand. The day we bought this boat, we actually made a deal on an A28. The dealer (Pickwick Lake, TN) had a sales dock at a marina and we tested the A28 and made a deal on it. When we got to the dealership, the color of the R5 was enough for us to buy that boat ILO of A28. The A series has very sleek lines and in my opinion, look better then the R series. Somebody on our lake just bought an A28 and its looks amazing.

It’s been so long since we had the 262, not sure I can comment on performance, handling and such. I will say that we probably should have reversed the order of ownership of the boats. At the time of the 262, our kids were teenagers, nieces and nephews younger still and the freeboard of the R series would have likely made them feel safer. Now that it’s just the wife and I most of the time, the sleek lines and shallow freeboard of the 262 would be perfect. Oh well!

Hey Steve and Lynn. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

First off that’s a BEAUTIFUL 262. We too have an affinity for that model and are now on our second one...except this one is the closed bow 263. You’re right, it’s an amazing machine.

That being said, your new setup is also amazing. Others here really enjoy that Cobalt model and have quite a few positive things to say.

Your intro was a great read and we sure enjoy all the pics. Thanks for taking the time to post them.
