Whining....

Mrs. Crazee Frazee here. As some of you read, I surprised my hubby with a 2016 R5 a few weeks ago. This post is officially me whining, so please read in in your head with the appropriate whiny voice someone you know would use!

We got the boat on a Wednesday, in the water for the first time Thursday. Got a couple of weird error codes, but mostly related to operator error like trim level when starting, and the safety lanyard. Got some more error codes on Friday. Oil was low so fixed that. Then on Saturday, electrical items starting crapping out. GPS died, some of the gauges were weird. Then on Sunday, got a EVC error code with notice to go to the dealer. By the time we got it out of the water, we lost control completely of the trim. It would magically raise on it's own and then eventually would not do anything. Zero control. So we strapped the lower unit up and drove our brand new boat home redneck style.

Boat goes to dealer on Tuesday, one week after purchase and has been there ever since with the "control lever" on backorder with no known date of when it will be available.

[Commencing official whining] So now, we missed awesome boating weather last weekend, this weekend, and it appears we will miss 4th of July weekend. We have a boating trip to Norris scheduled for July 8th, and I suspect our new boat won't be available then either. I was forced to go to a pool instead! Sigh

Oh, and I get to make my first payment next week!!!!

We have lots of trucks and equipment, so I know that stupid electrical gremlins always come get ya!!! But I want my boat back!!! So who do I have to screw at Volvo or cobalt to get this dumb control lever on... my.... boat!!??!! :D

Yea I think you are the 3rd person on here with wiring issues with that system. I think it's more of a harness then a controller. Or both. Maybe they will steal one from a stk unit.

Oh wow. So sorry to hear about this Mrs. CF. :(

Your dealer should definitely make this right....especially for the amount of money you paid for this boat. Do they know of your boating plans coming up in the near future? Hopefully they can put a rush on that part.

We have seen quite a few quality control issues lately with new Cobalts. That being said, the Dealer has stepped up to the plate and Cobalt has made things "right" on most (if not all) of the complaints.

At a minimum I would ask for a loaner boat until they can fix yours.

Our local dealer is being nice and has put the order in as priority to help speed things up. But he is not the dealer I bought the boat from so he's not as willing to loan me a new boat. We are going to ask today if they can borrow the part from another boat and put the backorder item on that one. We shall see

It's tough to get much out of the dealer you did not purchase from. And its not a new boat either.

Doesn't hurt to ask, but it's prime batting season and I'm sure everyone is crazy backed up on service orders.
