Hello, I have a question about my 5.7 Volvo GSI in my 226. I noticed a small dripping after a 20 minute run from the water pump that runs off the crankshaft pulley. I am assuming that any leak is abnormal. What does this pump do?, as of course there is a traditional auto style one running off the serpentine belt. Is it easy to change? Meaning do I have to remove the belt or pulley?

Yes that is it. Impeller was changed winter of 2018.Guess I'll buy a new one

Just like the water pump on a car, it has a seep hole for the bearing seal, and yours has failed and needs to be replaced.
I had to change mine earlier in the spring. You can find it on Amazon or Ebay for $200 and some change with a warranty, or buy the same OEM pump for $500. It's a pretty easy fix if you don't mind standing on your head.

As Ytmsn says, checkout ebay. Seller "rawpumps" is awesome. I bought a re-man pump for our 8.1gi from him and had a great experience.

This is your raw water pump. It pulls lake/sea water up through the outdrive and through various engine components to cool them. Depending on the year/model includes things like power steering cooler, oil cooler, fuel pump, and most importantly, delivers water to the thermostat housing where it can flow through the engine (via the circ pump), out the exhaust manifolds and risers, and back out of the boat with exhaust.

As most things on a boat, ease of replacing has a lot to do with ease of access with tools. Mechanically easy to replace with access. You likely will have a bracket with two bolts to prevent the pump from spinning if it seizes. On my boat, this is the most difficult part.

Depending on your boat, water may flow into the bilge when removing the clamp and hose from the inlet side of the pump. Either change on land, or be prepared to plug and work fast.

So I decided to change my impeller two days ago — everything I researched suggested it’s a simple DIY. Figured it was overdue and I am fairly handy, so why not. Looked fine but put in a new OEM Volvo impeller and black (gas) O-ring. Now I have a slight leak.

Please tell me I didn’t bugger up the pump and have $500 bill coming my way...

Any thoughts on what could be the problem?

Hey bud. Nice to hear from you. I rather it not be because of a leak. Those tiny bikes don't have to be super tight or they will break. Right bfun!
Take it back off get a new oring and lube the oring up some and put it back on. Just double check your 2 mating surfaces. You will be fine. Did you get a Volvo kit?

If by "bikes" you mean brass screws, then yes, do not over tighten.
