Well, I think I need to look at replacing the entire audio system in the Boat. The stereo is a Sony MEX-M70BT and the amp is a powerbass (Junk) with CPS Remotes on Helm and stern.
Currently have 6 speakers and a bass. Looking for a replacement that will last for a couple years.
appreciate any suggestions.

After a lengthy conversation with Crutchfield just replacing the PowerBass Amp with a Rockford. Crutchfield folks didnt think I would gain anything replacing the head unit.
Those folks are awesome.....

Head unit often doesn't buy a lot, but a good amp (class D for efficient power off a battery) and upgraded speakers can make a big difference. The Rockford marine amps are fine, but I'd get a separate channel for each speaker if you don't already have that. I ended up going with a JL refurb M600/6 - https://creativeaudio.net/m600-6-k/
Note you'll likely be running new wires for the amps and/or speakers - follow the manufacturer's recommendation for wire gauge for the amps, and keep it to 14 or 12 gauge if you can for the speakers (16 is usually ok too, but 14 is better for longer runs).
If you have the stock speakers and external amps, upgrading to JL's M series or M6 series speakers is probably also worthwhile. Some like Wet Sounds, and Cobalt uses Roswell - a matter of personal taste, but there's usually significant room for improvement from an old "stock" speaker setup.

Re: new stereo and Amp for my 220.
I travel during the week on business and the AMP died Sunday on the lake. I will look at the speakers this weekend when I install the new AMP. I noticed some folks mount the AMP in side the compartment but out side the Wood Panel. My current AMP is under the panel, I may switch it since putting the board back up can be a pain...jhnmdahl wrote: Wed Jul 24, 2019 1:18 pm Head unit often doesn't buy a lot, but a good amp (class D for efficient power off a battery) and upgraded speakers can make a big difference. Get a 6 channel amp and put each speaker on its own channel. What speakers are you running?
