2007 272 Swim Step

Post by jcpolky »

Hi Folks. The stop pin used to prevent the step from swinging freely when extended is missing. I can fabricate something but I don’t know what it looks like. Hoping someone can post a pic for me. Below is a pic of my step and you can see it just hanging. The little rectangular slot is what must have held the pin.

Have a 2008 272 with that step. I will take pics this weekend, if you don't get
replies sooner.

Hello jcp. I have a different step so can’t help you with this one. Was it missing when you purchased the boat? Did it break off? Or was it something that came undone?

Curious if you could jury rig something there. Hopefully olieL’s pics will help.

Any other pics of your Cobalt? ....and welcome aboard mate!

Thanks for reaching out! I have the boat for a number of years and it always worked fine...last weekend we were playing in the water and went to use the step and she was just swinging freely...I never looked at close to enough to know what was there but to answer your questions, it just disappeared last weekend in the water...I can definitely post some more pics but I am know the forum - any particular spot to post em? I am also interested in getting my hands on some original seat material...I made a custom bow insert (wasn't offered on the 272's) which came out awesome but the material is just slightly off color...

Hey Cobalt Nation. Still hoping someone can post some detailed pics for me. I am heading back up next weekend and would love to get her repaired by then. Thanks!

Maybe a large stainless steel bolt that fits there may work as well (versus welding a piece in there). 🤔

Looks like you you could just get a pin with a clip on it like a awning clip on a camper. install it. Pretty easy. Or just a stainless bolt. Put a nylon bushing around it.

One more pic:

As you can see, the lever bar on mine is welded in place... yours doesn't seem to
have been, as there is no discolored metal around the slot. Drill it out to round and
insert a good bolt with long shank and short threads, use red loctite on the nut. Or,
if you can find someone to cut out a piece of metal to fit the slot, then weld it in
place. Lot of pressure on that piece when someone's weight is on the swimstep.

I had the same thing happen to mine. I posted some pictures of my repair in the replacement parts forum.
The original bracket that you lost was sort of “L” shaped with Delrin(plastic) on the top for the bar to slide on and Delrin on the back for the bar to rest against when it is down.

I have a 2007 272 also and Factory material was still available last year. The dealer sold and shipped it to me.

Let me know if you have any questions.

One bushing holds the bar level when it is up and the second beshing puts the step at the right angle when it is down. I tried to do one bushing but the bushing had to be too big and it stuck out the bottom. The original was L shaped not round so you could not see it.
