Electronic compass

Hi folks, our "new" 2003 262 has the electronic compass with the Faria gauge and Ritchie sender. It was unplugged when we bought the boat. I plugged it in and it works, but the gauge buzzes.

I called Faria and they told me they don't repair them and it sounds to him like a mechanical issue, but probably nothing to worry about. Maybe wire it to a switch to turn it off when not in use.

Anyone have experience repairing these gauges or know where to find one? Looked on eBay, etc. Nothing there but a guy that wants $500 for a whole system, which seems excessive.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide. I'd be open to replacing, but the Ritchie dash mounts don't appear to be the same size.

Hey T.Ed. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

Is anything interfering with the sender? Any metal near the box? There should be no buzzing. What color are the gauges? A parts boat was available with dark colored face gauges. Not sure if it’s still available. JrCramer had it on this site.

Any pics of your Cobalt?

Again welcome aboard mate!

Hi, thanks for the response. Good questions. It's a white gauge package, and I'd have to say any pics I post now would be considered "before" photos, as she needs a bit of love to get back to her beautiful self. We're putting in new carpets, doing vinyl and gel coat repairs, cover repairs, new dash panels, etc.

The cover support poles are clipped to that side of the ski locker, if I recall correctly. I'll relocate those and see if it helps. If not, how do I find this parts boat? I would think the faceplate could be swapped out, right? I'm not afraid to crack open the gauge.

Thanks again.
