2017 R7 battery replacement

Post by Ryannewcomb »

Team

Tried to search for answers here but hard to do. Looking for best batteries to replace current. Don't think they have ever been replaced. Both of them are marine crank Interstate batteries ( 24M-XHD ) is all I can read on them currently. Also says 1000 cranking amps. I have an auto battery switch in the boat, which is either set to on or off. Any suggestions would be great. Price is a factor, but would rather have good batteries than be stranded.

That sounds like a great battery. What is the reserve capacity.
Just for a reference your car battery prob only has 700 CCA.

I purchased new batteries for my R30 from West Marine. They usually have a pretty good sale around April (I got 3 price adjustments in the 30 days I purchased them since they continued to have weekend sales - also got triple points). The only issue is they have pretty short warranties - 18 months compare to interstate (3 years?).

Can't go wrong with interstate, the R30 takes 3 Group 31 AGMs and WM were the only place that had these in stock when I was changing them out.

I’m looking for answers to this same question. I have a R7 as well with the auto switch. Both of my batteries are the interstate batteries which seem to be the crank batteries. Should I not have a deep cell battery as well for the stereo when the boat is not running?

I would be supprised that they are not deep cycle. Would need to see the top of them with the specs on them. We haven't heard of to many new Cobalt owners having issues with them killing the batteries while listening to tunes.

Yea that's a pretty common marine grade starting battery. Your fine. The reserve capacity is good at 135 minutes. It's not a car battery so its built stronger for the marine industry.
