Question on actual age of the boat

Here's an interesting question.
We just bought our "2002" 282. Beautiful boat looks like new. the HIN ends in 02, like it should
I ran the Boat fax on it and it said the Bill of sale and what appears to be the first registration of the boat was in April of 2004 in Minnesota. Then in checking the ECM modules on the engines, they are dated 8/29/2003. So, where was this boat from 2002 until 2004. Was it a leftover? Lost in transit?
I dont understand this.

Even more confusing is the Hour Meters say 32.2 starboard and 38.8 port side. This boat appears to have very little use on it. The engine serial numbers match original bill of sale and the Operators Manual from Mercury.

Any ideas on this?

2002 model year, likely sold in early '03. The ECMs could have been reflashed when it was traded in, possibly just because they came out with a newer tune to address an issue or improve economy, etc.... Most boats with twins will have more run time on one engine than the other as you want to start one at a time to listen for problems. Most my friends seem to always start the port side first, maybe that's some human quirk port is what everyone starts first?
