Hey there. New to the forum.
So my parents recently moved to their lake retirement house and want to get a new boat. Me, having been a mostly coastal boater my boating career(center consoles and outboards Lol) have been trying to research good bowriders for them and have come to Cobalt...that and I took my mom to a boat show years ago and she fell in love with them!
I've found a 2016 220S in their area here in Texas that I wanted to get the forum's opinion on if it's a good value and boat for them. Some of the options it has includes the Volvo 280hp V6 with DuoProps(30 total hours), wake tower with integrated Bimini top, the fender clips, interior carpet, aluminum trailer with custom wheels, stereo with helm and transom remotes.Color is black top hull, red boot stripe, white bottom hull. This all from what I can see in the listing pictures. They'll mainly be using it for cruising/anchoring out in a cove/pulling skier or tuber occasionally when the we(the kids) come to visit.

I've attached a picture of it and here's a link to the listing

My dad has been talking to the dealer and the previous owner used it solely on a freshwater lake and they've gotten to 50k on price right now. It's listed for 54,995. At 50k is this a good deal or should he try and go a bit lower? Thanks so much in advance for your thoughts.

Welcome from WI. Glad to help a future Cobalt owner!
I think they are a bit high but they are close. Do your parents have to have the tower. How are they going to use the boat? They going to tow the grand kids around doing water sports?
You can get the same boat much cheaper without the tower.
Anyways a quick market search I call it showed some of these. But help your self. Do they want to travel for a boat?
2 of these boats are in Texas. 1 in Idaho. Just examples. And some by me.

If it comes with that trailer I'd say $50k is fair. It's not a steal, but fair. Agree with BB that they can get more boat without the tower, but when we're talking a couple grand I get just buying local if you find a clean example. That one looks very nice, though I've heard black can be tough to keep clean elsewhere on the forum.

Exactly black is a real pain in the butt to keep clean. But its much better then a red boat.

Thanks so much for your thoughts....I’ll try to answer as best I can.
Unfortunately, travel is pretty much a no go unless it’s in-state. Silly I know especially with all the boats the Gulf States have to offer but hey that’s my dad. And Big Block thanks for the other listings in Texas. I’ve looked at those too but I had forgotten to mention like the one thing my mom must absolutely have which is the port side either captain’s chair or flip chair like on the S series. She calls it the “Momma seat.” They would be indifferent to the tower I’m sure.
And akorcovelos, the trailer is included with the price. Here in Texas at least, McClain trailers are the trailer to have. Do you think they could try and go a bit lower, maybe offer 47k in an effort to get it to 48.5k. I realize it’s whittling down the price a few thousand at a time but my parents are both big negotiators(aka lawyers lol). If y’all think it’s good and ok at 50k, I’ll just pass that along.
Thanks so much for your response guys.
Edit: I forgot to mention that it’s also on consignment rather than straight owned by the dealer. Perhaps that’s where the somewhat higher price is coming into play. Owner trying to cover the dealer consignment fees/percentages?

Yep you hit the nail on the head. 10% of the profit gone. So if the boat has what they want its a good dealer hit them below the waist with the offer. What can they say no. But hey they may say yes.
Yes my wife is the same way it has to have a Captain’s chair on the port side so I get it. Hence the reason we don't have a tow boat.
On the boat I have now I threw out a low ball price at least I thought it was and they took it. Yes it was a brokered boat too. So tell us tomorrow if they are new Cobalt owners,

Hey welcome to the Cobaltchat forum T1.
You have the upper hand in this market. Even on consignment I wouldn’t hesitate to throw in a low ball number. All they can do is say no. Their price is high but sounds like you got some parents who may know how to negotiate. Offer $41,500. .
Again welcome aboard mate!

I believe he is on the high side. I also cannot imagine luxury items like boats are flying out of showrooms at the moment unless they were pre sold at boat shows. Take advantage of these strange times and submit a low offer. Good luck!

Well Friday has come and gone and no success on an appointment. Pushed to next week and I'll advise how it goes
In the meantime @skno , why do you think the 280 v6 isn't enough for the 220S? Thanks
