Hi wanted to see some pictures or ideas for replacing the head unit in the glovebox. Seems like technology is passing me by again. I was hoping the units are plug and play into the same hole but looks like new technology are some flat panel screens (like a fusion). Any help or pictures would be great so I can get some ideas while on lockdown. Again 08 242. Thanks for any help!
Attached is a picture of what I currently have

What are you trying to get out of replacing your head unit?

The face panel is opening up when hitting waves on rough days. (It is on a hinge that drops down for access to like an iPod or MP3 player that we do not use).

Oh you can put another newer Sony model in it if you want. With BT. The new plug may be diff but it also may fit right in. But no big deal changing it if need.

I replaced my 2011 232 head unit and helm control with fusion components. The head unit has a pretty simple adapter plate to fit in the original opening. The helm control was a bit More difficult since it didn't fit in the original hole so fabbed up a new panel and flush mounted the control. Super happy with how it turned out!

Nice job. I like that. Thanks for posting. Fusion makes a great head unit.

Thanks! I couldn't find any direct replacement options I loved so decided to go that route. The other great feature with this setup is a wireless control unit that fusion has. Placed it near the stern sunpad. Also enjoying the fusion link app that allows full control from your phone.

I was going to say Fusion makes a DIN sized stereo that should fit that opening. It doesn't have a ton of fancy features like the bigger unit, but if you want a simple stereo it works good.

Wireless remotes work good too, and not that expensive. You might be able to get a wired remote for it if you want.

If you have the sony remotes then I would suggest just going with a new sony unit that will work with the remotes. I have a 2008 232 (basically same as 242) and I just had this installed about 2 months ago.

Works with remotes and looked like a pretty simple swap.

I am installing this same Sony MEX-M100BT in my 2008 222, mainly because I want to keep using my Sony in-boat wired remotes. I will let you know if the remotes still work when I am done with this install. I'm also installing all JL speakers, amps, Sub and Tower speakers too.

We enjoyed that MEX-M100BT head unit after upgrading from an earlier Sony Xplod head unit. Worked well with the sony system DR.
...we have since replaced that M100 with a RF unit using transom and helm remotes to boot. I like your thinking on the JL speaker and amp upgrade.
Enjoy the music my friend.

A7 do you think your system sounded better though from the Sony to the fusion. I'm just wondering how much mine is holding the system back?
