New Cobalt Buyer

Hello all:

Apologies if this information is somewhere else on the forum. I am a first-time (potential) buyer. I have never bought a new boat before, much less a Cobalt, but am looking at the 200 or 220s. My question: are the prices negotiable from what the website quotes you after you build your own(including website built-in discounts)? I found an Invoice v. MSRP website, that listed about a 30% difference between _non-discounted_ MSRP vs. Invoice.

The website posts a discount of about 17% off MSRP, which leaves the remaining discount vs. invoice of about 9%. Is that the average margin for boat dealerships to make on the sale of a new one? If not, what is it? Thanks for the help.

When I was looking I priced out some new ones, and they were not 30% off MSRP. Even on a last years model sitting in stock and as a demo boat, best I could get was around 25% off.

Hey hambone. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

23-28% seems to be a rough average range off of MSRP based upon others who have purchased new. Not sure about the website metrics but others will chime in shortly.

Great to hear you are going for some of the finest runabouts on the planet. You will not be disappointed in the ride.

Again welcome aboard mate!

Hey welcome. I don't know if you will get that kind of discount on a small boat. The larger ones yes. Bob Rae had the numbers on this I believe. But congrats can't wait to see what you end up with and how she's powered. Bb I hope πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

The Gateway Series, which is what you looking at are loss leaders for Cobalt as in, they don’t make as much percentage wise on those boats (but they are still making money for sure) but it is an investment for the future as they hope you come back for a bigger Cobalt next time. The website pricing is pretty awesome on the 10 series (200,220, CS22,CS23). That site is going to be cheaper than going in the dealership I believe.
