1990 Cobalt 263

Hey gang I have an issue I'm hoping someone could give me some insight. I have a 1990 263 with a Volvo 7.4l and the Swede Bravo 3 outdrive. I know this particular outdrive was only made for this particular year boat which sucks for me. Any how, when shifting from Neutral to FWD or Neutral to REV it sounds like a stater engaging. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.
