I'll know in a few days, but I recently purchased a lake property and after the deal closed was told that the owners wished to sell their boats. I wasn't expecting anything so lavish and never thought of myself as the owner of such a beautiful boat, but if the price is right, I think the stars will align and I will end up buying their beautiful 2001 226 Cobalt. Anyway, if it doesn't go through, maybe I should become a Cobalt boat owner some other way.
The more I look into it, the more I think I am attracted to Cobalts.
So, I will read a ton around here and try to figure out about boating in general. I am a long time automotive hobbyist and am currently restoring 2 older BMWs.

I did buy my first boat over the weekend to get started. I have a friend who told me when I started down this road, that no matter what I should buy a 14 foot aluminum utility boat to lug lumber and get to this island property. I agreed, went looking for one I saw in Kijiji and ended up driving 2 hours to see a piece of worn out Junk with a decent outboard (Yamaha 20)
On my return I stopped at an old time friend's place and remembered he had an aluminum boat in his family forever and never used it , as he is exclusively a canoe and Kayaker. So, I was very excited to see this boat again. It is a beauty (Meaning with Patina) Anyway, my first boat is a 15 foot heavy duty Springbok. Seems to be very nicely built and solid. It has a late 60's Evinrude Fastwin 18 HP , that will most likely get ditched for a more modern outboard (It has some issues)
So a Cobalt (maybe) and a quality Canadian built utility boat. What a pair!

I agree, I must see pictures of these boats - both Aluminum and the 226.

Let's talk about this Evinrude a bit too. I wrangled with a 1950's Evinrude outboard through the 80's and early 90's that was on our Boston Whaler. We may be able to help.

NiCad, welcome to the forum. I'm on my second season with my 226, and so far quite happy with it. What options/power plant does she have?

Very, very excited to say….. I am a Cobalt owner. It has 5.7 power and Volvo drive system. It has a small tear in one seat and the radio doesn't work.
I am on Lake Muskoka. I actually have an Armada as I also purchased his Edgewater 15.5 with Tohatsu 90 HP power and a Hobie Cat.
Going into this big time now!!

The Springbok has a Late 60's 18HP Evinrude Fastwin. There is a 20 HP outboard that comes with the property that needs some "work" Apparently the impeller is done, so maybe the whole motor is too. We'll see.

Looking forward to getting the Grime and corrosion off the Springbok. Nicad is a name I just grabbed years ago because all the other ones were taken. That was in the day Nicads were actually widely used, and not just found in the Home Depot recycling bin.

Yes, East Bay is on Lake Muskoka (see circled section of map). We're near the top left of the circle, close to 'The Kettles'.

I think you'll have me beat in a race. From what I've read the 226 has a very fast hull, so paired with a 5.7 DP your boat should hustle. My 212 has the 5.7 DP as well, but hull isn't shaped for top speed.

Great, I'll be in that neck of the woods for sure, almost first stop as I have some friends around there. I'd bet you might even know them, as it looks like you have circled their property. As much as this is overkill, I was originally thinking I would buy a boat for water skiing. Not sure how the 226 will fare wake wise or fuel consumption wise. Perhaps the 90HP Tohatsu on a 15 .5 foot boat will tow decently with a good wake. I'm going to be based out of Indian Head Harbour and we are on Eilean Gowan island.
Let's hope for a Sunny summer.
