Hi all,
IMG_20200614_131518122.jpg
I just purchased a 1997 220 with 1100 hours. It has a Volvo 7.4GL. The engine was replaced about 80 hours ago. This is my first I/O, I've owned smaller outboards since my first Glastron Carlson when I was in high school (I had the purple metallic paint!). It also has a 1 year old paint job.

It will need new trim around the gauges and new vinyl, but I'm saving that for the winter (it's long in MN!). The list of other needs is going to be long and get longer the more I use it, but it's got good bones!

First trip out this weekend was great! We were on Prior if anyone is from MN, but will likely be on the St Croix quite a bit.

A few questions:

1. Anything I need to know about this 7.4GL?
2. My biggest question right now is the steering wheel. I ordered a leather/steel one off ebay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-Gussi- ... 2854463970), but I don't know if I got the right kind. See pics.
3. I like the carbon fiber dash that BMuu35 did here: viewtopic.php?f=45&t=3636&p=77043&hilit=utah#p77043
4. Thinking about Aqua Marine flooring (Sea Deck, etc.), Cruiser64's looks nice: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=3931&p=77269#p77269
5. I think the Cobalt logo and name is missing from the side?!

Great to be here!

The steering wheel I ordered:

Dash is needing work!

Welcome from California!
Ahhh the Carlson was very James Bond but you’re on to the best ride in Boats now.

Looks like that’s just a secondary hub on a tapered shaft.
Now that the wheel is off either a puller with thin or clamp claws.
Or go old school and wood shin behind the adapter and tap the steering gear head ( with a nut on top to not damage the threads).

Keep the pics coming

That bad boy has seen some sun. Like Matt said. Get a 2or3 jaw puller and pop that adapter piece off.
