Hello fellow Cobalt owners. I’m so glad I found CC. I’ve already learned so much just reading through the forum. Just got this last Thursday. Only had it out once so far and am dying to get it out again!

I’ve always had Sea Rays and nothing bigger than 20ft. We’ve been finding ourselves wanting to bring more people aboard, so I went on the hunt for something bigger. I didn’t know much about Cobalts going in, but after some light research, decided I had to have one.

This has the 8.1 Volvo engine with 640 hours. The hours made me nervous at first, but it’s a 2 owner boat that’s been well cared for and had all maintenance records. And for a 16 year old boat, 640 isn’t that much. At least it shows it’s been ran, which I’ve heard is better than a boat that’s been sitting. Can’t wait to learn more about it and upgrade as I go to make it my own.

YeeeeeeHawwww. Another 260 series owner!

I just finished posting about your stereo question in the other thread.

Did the bimini come with your arch? I don’t see it. You’re going to want that if you’re in Oklahoma.

How about transom filler cushions?

Are those Rev 10 or 8’s on the tower. Horn tweeters are the bomb. They project incredibly well behind the boat.

More pics PLEASE! Maybe an engine shot too. :D

Btw, what happened to the skeg? Any damage or just needs a repaint?

The ladder is missing grips. Try GreatLakesskipper.com or buy bicycle grips if you want to go ghetto.

And that is one MASSIVE flag pole.

You’re gonna love this model. 💕

.....and show us a shot of the Jeep. CJ5? Willys wagon?

Kindred spirits brother...

Sorry for the long post and possibly double post. I think I accidentally hit submit before I was done.

Great points/questions Aslan7. I took the Bimini cover off this weekend to put it in the wash. It’s in great shape but needed cleaned.

The tower speakers are Fosgate Wetsounds. I’m actually not sure whether they are 8s or 10s, so I’ll have to check and update on that.

On the skeg, I think it just needs a good scrub and possible coating. I have a detail shop that I’m sending it to who is supposed to be one of the best around for high end cars/boats. He will do a full restoration and ceramic coating to help protect the gel coat and eliminate the need for waxing. The coating is supposed to last forever and prevents any water spots or oxidation from occurring. Keeps it showroom new by simply letting the water run off with no residue left behind. He said you can keep an electric blower at the dock and literally just blow off any dirt/water at the end of the day. He compared it to Rain-x on a windshield. My brother in law had him do It on his Mercedes and swears by it.

The swim ladder cover has 3 of the 4 ring covers. I took one off to match it at Ace. No luck there and I’ve had no luck finding replacements online, so thank you for the tip! I actually bought 1” black rubber chair leg end caps and a product called Re-Grip. My plan is to install the chair leg ends to cover the end of the rung and then put the Re-Grip over the chair leg ends. I’m hoping it will hold up better and should be better quality. I may end up hating it and going back to the regular covers, but it’s about the same price, so I’ll post pics and let you know how that goes.

As for the transom cushions, I’m still upset about that. The previous owner had them in great condition, as he never used them and always kept it open to walk through. He brought them with him, and I secured them in the boat. Somehow, the back cushion must’ve not been secured all the way. I literally drove less than 10 miles going no more than 45, and somehow the one cushion that was sitting upright against the seat blew out. I traced back the way I came and never found it. So I’m on the hunt for the backrest portion of the transom cushions. The good thing is, I tend to agree with the previous owner. I actually prefer it being open to be able to walk through. But if you have any suggestions for where to get a replacement, I’m all ears.

Thanks for the input!

Forgot to mention the Jeep Aslan7. That’s my brother in law’s inherited Willy’s Jeep. 1956 I believe. His grandfather found it in a creek and they grew up driving it at the lake as kids. My brother in law sent it off for a full frame-off restoration a couple years ago and it’s beautiful. I’ll send some pics soon.

Well, as I mentioned, I’m learning as I go on some of this!🤓

I confirmed that my tower speakers are not Fosgate at all. They are Wetsounds Rev 10’s. For whatever reason, I thought Wetsounds was made by Fosgate. Thank you for putting up with a noob! I’m a quick study, so hopefully I’ll be up there with the rest of you in no time!

Welcome from Missouri! I am a former 262 owner as well so I will always have a soft spot for those! 620hrs are nothing if it has been properly maintained. I've seen these motors go 2,000hrs.

Cant wait to hear the captains report on when you get it in the water!
