Bow Speaker Restoration

Wanted to share my first upgrade to my new/old ‘04 262. I couldn’t find anywhere on the forum where someone has done this, but I’ve seen several older boats with this same issue on the bow speaker covers, so hopefully this is somewhat unique post that will inspire some other older model Cobalt owners.

I’m new to the forum, so I’m not sure how you all feel about customizing your boats to look different than the factory look, but I’m big on making things my own. This was a quick and cheap way to bring my speakers covers back to life and give it a custom, yet classic look to match the overall design of this boat.

This took me a trip to the store for spray paint, and a couple hours prep time. I simply removed the Cobalt logo plates, sanded the felt coating from the speakers (which was flaking off anyway). Then I used a gloss navy blue indoor/outdoor spray paint from Rustoleum. After they dried, I simply glued the logo back on and re-installed.

I decided I would match the blue trim in the upholstery. I was nervous about the gloss, as I didn’t want them to have a cheap look. They didn’t have the color I wanted in a satin finish, so I figured I would try the gloss and could always cover it up if I didn’t like it. Now that I’ve seen them installed, I’m glad I went with the gloss.

Let me know what you think and if anyone out there has done something similar to theirs.

WOW. Amazing job C313! Yes that was one of the weaknesses of this model. I like your look even better than the factory look. More pics!

Any idea on where to find the cobalt emblems that go on the speaker covers? I've looked at a few sites and have not found anything yet and from what I gather here good luck on finding the actual speaker grills. If anyone knows where I can get the emblem and/or the entire grill for a 282 please let me know.
Thanks!

On our 282 it shared the same covers as the 262 . But after defuzzin them I wrapped them in outdoor mesh material so it wouldn’t sunburn. I almost masked off the indent where the logo went so it appeared smooth. But I cleaned the logos and glued them on.
I think with or without it would look good 👍🏼
