Trim problems
Trim problems
This is a weird one, at least for me. Come back to the ramp to load out and trim will not move. Reset relays no help. Found the circuit breaker popped and when I reset it motor runs for a bit (without switch input) then pops the breaker again. There is some charring around receptacles for relays and around the motor plug. I reset the breaker again and this time nothing happens. I then wiggle the wire harness at the motor and it starts running again and lifts the out drive up. So, my plan is to change both relays and the wiring harness. Can I use relays from the auto parts store as long as they’re 5 pin and same amperage? Also, where can I find the harness? 2002 226 VP 5.7 and VP SX outdrive. Thanks in advance for any advice or knowledge.

Boats are vibrating and slamming right? Loose plugs can also oblong your Male to female pins in the connector.merlebh wrote: Thu Jul 30, 2020 12:35 am There is some charring around receptacles for relays and around the motor plug. Inspect the terminals for arcing carbon and clean them up with serated pin cleaners. Check your clasps for movement once reconnected as it may need to be better secured or replaced professionally.
Get the OE relays as the amperage Is key in allowing your breaker to do its job.

Re: Trim problems
Check the relays closely, they can look and function fine in a static environment, but if you wiggle the wires going to them you may find a loose terminal causing the issue. Just had this with my captains call relays, took a while wiggling wires to figure out it was the pin loose inside the relay housing. On visual inspection it looked new.

Re: Trim problems
Got the harness out and judging from the looks of things you guys are correct. Plastic is melted and several connectors are loose in the receptacles. Have a new harness and relays on the way from cecilsmarine.com. I appreciate the help and I’ll add an update once I get the new harness in.

Yikes, that’s how the dealer put it back together after drive service?
