Need more hornpower

Post by Nicad »

Not sure if my 226 is normal, but my horn is the most anemic thing I have heard. Are boat horns quieter out of respect for the surroundings? Anyone have a preferred dual tone for marine use? Mine is so muted, I don't even know where it is.

Just get an air horn. You should have one for a safety kit anyways.

Mine is the same way. Here's what I'm going to install this winter.

Here is another option and probably the one I'll get;

I bought one of those Stebel Nautilus horns for my Lotus Elise (the horn it came with was anemic, and the car can be hard for soccer moms in tank-like SUVs to see). It sounds great, is plenty loud, and was a drop-in replacement. Make sure the wire feeding your horn is big enough when you install it - it draws a bit more current than many stock horns!

Would the Cobalt wiring be through a relay like on a car?

Yep, probably. The relay control wire (to the horn switch) will be fine, but make sure the wire to the battery and to the horn is big enough for the rated amperage of the horn.
