Ordering a R3, and trying to decide on the stereo, we are not interested in Arch Speakers (just not us), is the Premium and Platinum a major upgrade. It’s a big increase in cost but we use and keep our boats for at least 10 years. Have the money but don’t like to waste it.

Personally the premium sounds perfect. Everyone loves their JL speakers and you get the extra pair for the transom plus the transom remote. Speakers on the transom are awesome for when you are hanging out back there in the water. You don’t have to turn up the cockpits speakers so loud that people can’t call in the boT bc u want to hear it in the water.

I will also say I didn’t know that Roswell was better than JL

The Premium sound option with JL A’s will be perfect for ya. You won’t miss the RGB’s for the added cost. ...and +1 on ajc’s post.

Thanks for the feedback on the stereo, as far as engine, I am getting the Volvo Penta 350 HP w/o captains call. Living on the lake kind of discourages the loud noise. I have a 2006 226 with the VP DP at 320 HP and cannot see how the 300 HP would be enough. I am the original owner and have really loved the 226, hope the R3 keeps me as happy.

That's a nice set up. Today's engines from what I'm told are incredible. The 240 is equal to the 420 from 2003. So no worries that 350 is going to move that r3 right along. Congrats on that purchase and keep the reports and pictures coming

I have the premium sound on our R3 and find it very nice. I waffled over getting the Platinum sound and think if I had it to do over, I might have gone that route for more bass, but not having heard the Platinum sound I can't give an opinion on the difference. The upgrade wasn't that much though.

We are really happy with the performance of the VP350 in our boat. I know some want a higher top speed (we get around 53 mph out of ours), I didn't think the extra cost was worth it. Opinions vary though.

If you drop anchor regularly, you might consider the windlass option. It is pricey, but my next boat will have one for the convenience and keeping the bottom mud out of the anchor locker.

I have a Cobalt 2006 226 with the VP DP GXI with 320 HP. In great shade and has been a wonderful boat.

Get a windlass. I have lots of options, But When I build my next boat, it will have windlass. If you keep it on a lift, get the mooring cover. Well worth it

A windlass was one of the very few Must have options when we ordered our R5. It is used multiple time on every trip out. It does need a proper trailer, and a little care loading and unloading depending on the ramp angle, but we feel it is a must have. And besides, it's all chain. You dont really need to get a proper hook, just dump a pile of chain on the bottom and that will hold! All chain can get noisy in a blow, but we are not intentionally riding out the storms. We did come in yesterday with a bit of rain on us, we lowered the arch and bimini down to windshield level and traveled in with no problems. That was impressive. I'm not sure they planned it that way, but it did work. More reason to have the power tower. (we don't, but maybe next one.)

Stereo, we went with the 2nd tier (rear remote and transom speakers) we are not needing the tower speakers and the bonus thump of an additional sub. One sub was enough for us. We are very pleased with the sound (we are still able to hear it at speed, and it sounds good) and with the transom speakers we are able to modulate it for nice sounds at anchor without blaring the cockpit out.

100% get the premium sound. The platinum sound by Roswell is way over priced and the JL sounds just as good. If you want the extra sub add one after market
